Leura

"Best move I've ever done"

I moved to Leura from Brisbane a couple of years ago and I really love it. I had very fond memories of the Blue Mountains, having lived in Katoomba several years ago and I was keen to leave the heat of Brisbane for the much cooler, cleaner mountain air. I don't drive so I rely heavily on public transport and living less than 5 mins from the bus stop and the station is fantastic. A few things worth mentioning about living up here, sure it does get cold in Winter and it's often overcast but the sunny days and the much cooler Summers are so wonderful that they more than make up for it. Also my pets haven't had one flea since I've been here and we rarely see a cockroach or a mosquito. As mentioned some of the shops are expensive but the shops are unique which I think make up for it and if you want the usual shops you'll probably find them at Katoomba which is only a few kms away. There are several expensive restaurants but there are also a few decent bakeries, an excellent butcher, a very good/cheap Chinese restaurant and an excellent fish/chicken/chips/burger takeaway. If you want to escape the tourists just go to the pub, they rarely go there and you can get good counter meals and in the evenings they often have live music.
Leura is very friendly and I like living in a place that attracts tourists from all over the globe.

I'm 26 and have just finished my primary teachers degree, currently live on the Gold Coast with my dog. I love the beach but equally love waterfalls/bush walking for the outdoor fix. I'm looking at moving to spring wood where my sister is based and just wondered what it is like socializing for a young, single person, is it quite "clicky" or is it easy to make friends? Just sounds more family orientated/older more settled area but I am in need of a change and do love it when I go for holidays.

Lauraf7, hope you haven't moved there. For a young person, you will go stir crazy unless all you want to do is walk your dog, visit your sister and read books. Oh, and if you want to travel 75 kilometres to Sydney to disco, go for it!

Go to Blackheath - its great community where people actually care about each other. Leura and Wentworth Falls full of stinky old powder puffs who couldnt afford to live on the North Shore. If you want to do lattes with Pru and Tru from Kath & Kim, choose Leura. I bought there so many years ago because the land was cheapest available within 1 hour drive to CBD.
