I made the Sea Change from the Western Suburbs of Sydney to Merimbula in 2004. It was the best move we ever made. It's a great place to bring up kids, the community makes you feel welcome and there is plenty of things to do, what ever your age or interest.
You can play any sport, and get involved in any number of outdoor activities like Fishing, Kayaking, Bushwalking, Mountain Biking and more.
There are plenty of shops and you don't have to leave the valley to get anything.
We had not problem finding work and housing is very affordable compared to the city. We sold a small 3 bedroom house in the suburbs and built a new house which is walking distance to the beach. There are plenty of great restaurants and you can get fresh oysters straight from the lake.
If you are thinking of moving I would highly recommend it.
