We bought our townhouse in Brooklyn in 2024, mainly because we were priced out of all the suburbs closer to the city. We still wanted to be somewhere well connected, and honestly, Brooklyn has turned out to be a great choice. I didn’t want to post anything too soon, so we decided to wait a bit before sharing our thoughts, and after almost a year here, we’re really happy with the move, the kids love this suburb a lot.
We’re on Heather Avenue, which is a nice, quiet street. There’s a kids’ park and a huge dog park just a short walk away (great if you’ve got doggos). Our child’s school is also within walking distance — my wife walks our little one there every morning, and it’s become a lovely part of the routine.
Access to the freeway is super convenient, but surprisingly, we don’t really hear any noise from it since it’s on the other side of the Federation Trail. The express bus service to the city has improved heaps too. It used to be a bit painful to get in and out of the city, but now that most of the roadworks are done and the tunnel’s nearly open, it’s actually a breeze — about 25 mins to Southern Cross, sometimes even quicker on the way home.
The community here is awesome. There are lots of families with young kids, and people are genuinely friendly. The local community group has already put on a few great events — like a movie night for the kids and now a Halloween party at the community hall. It’s really nice to see everyone getting involved.
The council also seems to be doing a good job looking after the suburb. Their “Greening Brooklyn” project has made a big difference — more trees, cleaner streets, better maintenance overall. We used to rent in the south-eastern suburbs before moving here, and I have to say, the council here seems much more active with keeping the area tidy and looking good.
Overall, Brooklyn’s been a really pleasant surprise. It’s peaceful, family-friendly, and super convenient, and it just keeps getting better.
