"A suburb that's getting better by the day!"

I have been living in Brooklyn for the last 16 years, and I can see the stark difference between then and now. Five years ago, we had to close our windows and doors due to horrible smells, but things are a lot different now. You can get some foul smells from the meat factories occasionally, but I believe things are only going to improve as most of the factories are closing down and moving elsewhere and allowing more residential development. 10-11kms to the city with express bus service is also a great feature, which takes about 12(on a good day) - 35 mins to reach Southern Cross; I believe traffic will improve further with the completion of the west gate tunnel next year.

There are several parks, a community centre and a very well-maintained dog park. Altona Gate Shopping Centre is at a walkable distance (800 - 900 meters) with several options.

"80% of it is just a dumb"

When majority of the suburb is just a garbage dump, you're a bound to have questionable odours rise up into your nose.

"Best Value in the Western Suburbs"

So Close to suburbs such as Yarravile and Williamstown with median house prices of over a million, this only being a few minutes down the road is unbelievable value.

Over 5 parks in Brooklyn great shopping centre in walking distance and cinemas down the road.

12 minute drive into the CBD is a nice touch as well

"Great Value, so close to the City"

Working in the city can sometimes be daunting, however only a 10-15 minute drive into the CBD makes it much more convenient.

Lived here for a while and no smell just clean air from all the parks that surround

Newly renovated shopping centre, homemaker centre and also cinemas just down the road

5 minutes from two great beaches and as mentioned only 10-15 minutes from Melbournes CBD Nightlife

"Trucks, Factories and Stinky smell during weekdays"

Brooklyn is 15-20mins to city without traffic.
Bus you can take is either 411 or 412 to Footscray Train Station. OR 232 to Queen Victoria Market. Closest shopping centre would be Altona Gate Shopping Centre ( I find the place quite boring) not much shops but they have KmaRT and Coles).Woolworths and few shops are 5mins away to the Mall. Altona Beach is also close which is good during summer but can really be packed like St Kilda beach or even more. Quiet suburb.

BAd Part:
Close to factories and to add on to that- there's these garbage smell (dead rat, piggery factory, dead animal) during weekdays. Its very strong specially when you live along millers road to sunshine (where you will see heaps of factories along the way). I figures out that there's a landfill closeby. However during weekends you will notice any smell.. it depends on the day.
If you have kids and want outdoors its okay but I think these factories can't be beneficial for your health in the future coz its too
Many of them around.Okay to rent and stay for few months and so but to live, maybe find a place closer to the beach maybe like altona north. Past the cherry lakes. But housing prices could go up a little bit as this area is close to city. FEw trees and very dry. Huge trucks use Millers road every weekdays to tansport stuff to these factories. So it can be very noisy and polluted.

Traffic in Western Freeway can be really bad bec of these trucks! Worst delays in the morning. Lucky that Millers Road is not far from the city but really, the Trucks can be your weekday morning dilemma. Do your research first..
I heard brooklyn is the most polluted suburb in Melbourne.. so think about it.

Great for

  • Quiet
  • Close to the beach
  • Close to city

Not great for

  • Trucks which can cause noise, pollution and bad traffic esp on weekdays.
  • Factories (BAD SMELL) very polluted
  • Very Dry and can be very expensive for rental properties

"Best kept secret!"

I moved here a year ago and just love the convenience of the area! Takes me 10 minutes to get to work (30minutes in peak hour) straight on the freeway. 5 minutes drive to the beach, shops in walking distance and the neighbours are really down to earth and friendly. Came from Sydney and you definitely cannot anything 10km from west of Sydney for less than 800K.

"A great place for people who works in the city...direct M1 access!"

Brooklyn is a great place if you work in the city, beacuse it's only 10km to Melb CBD approx 10mins drive. And the house prices here are still cheap compare to other suburb that has the same distance to the city. The only thing is Yes a lot of people said it's an industrial site, but it has full of potential, because houese here has big block (mostly 700sqm approx) Brooklyn is only a small residential area, and it's quiet and safe here, now it's starting to be recognised by young people, and houses here are selling fast. Best street Eames Ave!
