Victoria Point

"Excellent compromise between city and semi-rural living"

I've lived here for around 8 years and love it. Victoria Point is an easy 20 minute mainly semi-rural drive to central hubs for shopping such as Loganholme and also the M1 for easy access to the Gold Coast. Capalaba is 15 minutes away and Carindale around 20 mins for more shopping and access to the Gateway Motorway north. It offers awesome waterside/bayside living with beautiful sheltered beaches, islands only a short ferry ride away with an excellent cinema and dining hub at Lakeside right in the middle of VP. The furthest part of VP wouldn't be more than a 5-6 minute drive frm the water. The cinemas are at least half the price of mainstream cinemas yet are the same quality or better with one screen being the biggest in Qld. Sirromet Winery is only a 10 minute drive away for 5 star dining or spending a lazy afternoon on the Tuscan Terrace and is open most days including breakfasts. The well equipped YMCA fitness centre/gym is part of a much larger sporting and pool complex where off peak memberships are less than $10/week at time of writing. It has 2 Woolworths and 1 Coles supermarket, an Aldi plus a K-Mart and a reasonable selection of variety shops. However with the larger hubs being within a 20 minute drive there isn't much you won't find. Public transport isn't bad but not great either. There are plenty of buses but it's a bit of a journey to get anyway including the city. The is no rail with the closest being Cleveland which is a 15 minute drive then the actual train trip to the city which is an hour or more depending on the service. Traffic is OK within reason but as VP has the only supermarkets between Cleveland and Redland Bay it does get busy during the usual school peak hours though the roads are gradually being upgraded. However there are multiple routes in/out and around VP so it's nowhere near as bad as the suburbs closer the the city and motorways. The area continues to be developing and expanding rapidly with much of the semi-rural blocks in Redland Bay to the south, Thornelands to the north and Mt Cotton to the west being developed. Houses vary in price but are north of what many would consider 'average'. Cheaper 3-bed houses are currently generally north of $450,000 with 4-bed modern houses closer to $500 - 550k and the more premium residences upward of $600k - 650k (or more as you get within sight of the bay). There are plenty of established houses on decent sized blocks (600m2+) though there is very limited land left in VP itself with most of those now 450m2 or smaller. There are a number of retirement villages in the area as it is an ideal enclave for retirees given its easy to get around and has good services and amenities. Plenty of parks and family friendly spaces and plenty of walking paths. There is a library and plenty of coffee shops around as well as a specialty butcher and fresh produce stores around the Aldi/Lakeside area. There are a number of schools in and around VP - the high school doesn't have a great reputation but there are others such as Cleveland High and Kimberley College with do and both have regular buses to and from VP. A great place for families and the prices here will only go up as more and more people discover this 'hidden' suburb by the sea.

Wow thanks for such a great and detailed review. Im from Sydney but used to live in GC & SC but had a busienss in Toowong and in-laws in Redcliffe, Nudgee area. Id never even heard of Victoria PT til I located an Airbnb there. We are trying different suburbs with Airbnb before we either rent or buy. (I havent given up hope of building on our block in Eumundi).

what would you say the people and the vibe/energy of the suburbs is like? I know beaches arent great in Brisbane but I dont do well with chlorinated pools and I do love a swim in ocean preferably with minimal to now waves.
