Dernancourt

"A nice leafy suburb that is quiet and tranquil"

Neatly sandwiched between North East and Lower North East Rds which have plenty of shopping and public transport, including multiple feeder bus options to the O-Bahn.

it is not a suburb you tend to enter unless you live or know someone there. Very windy backstreets and multiple dead ends (due to the number of roads that end at the river or the OBahn busway), which eliminates a lot of passing traffic

The area is serviced by plenty of shopping centres with the 2 big major supermarkets no more than a 5 minute drive. Ample small businesses - plenty of car servicing and car parts places on NE Rd, gyms, fast food, takewaway of all variety etc.

Linear Park runs right through Dernancourt - an awesome getaway for a walk, run or a place for your dogs to exercise. Well lit at night.

A real patchwork of houses - from the very basic 3 bedroom to architectural masterpieces with adjoining tennis courts. Search and you will find a wide variety of house values, all nestled right next to each other.

Without doubt on the law of averages, the finer houses tend to be nestled closer to the Linear Park frontage and adjoining streets.

Disappointments:
A long way from the Hampstead Telstra exchange so ADSL is at best about 2.5Mbps speed (of a 24Mbps service) unless you go cable.
Predominantly based in the City of Tea Tree Gully Council where their rates are incredibly high (by any standard) for anyone with an above average council valuation. Be aware some riverside properties and streets in the very SW part of the suburb are in the Port Adelaide/Enfield Council which I would expect would mean the council rates are considerably more affortable.

No easy cut through way to get to Gorge Rd, Athelstone, Newton etc - you are forced back down to George St where Paradise Motors is situated. (on the intersect of Campbelltown council)

Great for

  • Good Public Transport
  • Large block sizes
  • Leafy and Green

Not great for

  • Cost of Council Rates
  • Poor Fixed Line Internet Speeds

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
