"Second biggest crime rate in Victoria 2016"
Affordable housing. 1 in 33 homes are robbed, 20 percent unemployment, probably much more since Corona now. Not many industrial factories. Car break ins, damage to property and theft is rife. Australian paper mill pollutes the air with a foul stench close to egg fart on a weekly basis. Town is out dated and shabby overall. Has some excellent schools though. Not Kurnai obviously. Great state park and parks in general. Fishing is awesome down here without any doubt. Shops are a stone throw away in every direction including local shopping centre. Can't wait to move out a little further though.

Like you said Gary you live in a good part of Morwell, hence there are very bad parts. Crime statistics don't lie unfortunately, this place is even a last resort for police. The new recruits get sent here first, if they can handle this place they can handle anywhere in Victoria. I have lived in many places in Victoria and this is one spot I won't stay in for longer than I have to.
Unemployment is much less than 20%, homes robbed doesn't sound right either. There's always police up and down the streets to reduce crime which is working. It scares the dodgys away. There has been a large intake of police officers and they are patrolling which makes the place safer, so I have doubts about people making Morwell look worse than it really is in their exaggerations
I think you need to research the crime statistics a little more Grant. Everything I stated is from actual Victorian government crime statistic agencies. The figures aren't exaggerated one bit. I have added good points about Morwell to. When was the last time you sat under the train station on the steel bench seats for the day? Go do it for 1 day this week. I bet you wouldn't. The area is cheap for a reason.
Top of Google search for unemployment published 27th May 2019
15.3 per cent
The Small Area Labour Markets data shows, within the Latrobe Valley, Morwell has continued to have the highest unemployment rate over two years, with unemployment in Morwell at 15.3 per cent in December 2018 27 May 2019
Add coronavirus to the rate and I'm sure 20% isn't far off correct.
So true high unemployment cheap housing as in run down and the poor shopping compared to when I grew up here.Retailers set up in Traralgon
I have lived in mole on my life I've never been broken into and I live in a good part of more so just like any town you love you good and bad parts so don't put this place down no matter where you go if you look for trouble you'll find it
