Engadine

"A great place to live!"

I have had the fortune of living in this postcode since I was born, although not always in the same suburb.

Engadine is certainly good for many things, and would appeal to many people for different reasons. The air is clean and the bush is plentiful. There are many properties with bush views and many are right on the bush itself.

Engadine also has good facilities for shopping (mainly for groceries) and is essentially the grocery "hub" if you like of at least half of the Sutherland Shire and even down as far as Helensburgh. There is a Woolworths, Coles, Franklins and soon to be Aldi. There is also Medicare and an RTA office. There are a couple of good gyms as well.

Public transport is not too bad with buses to the train station, but you would do well with a car to travel the distances as it is a VERY large suburb geographically.

The downside really is affordability. Whilst this means that you are likely to get a good resale value for your property, it can also make it quite difficult to live here. There are quite limited numbers of rental property (units/townhouses especially) in Engadine and there is always many people waiting to rent them. The result is that people pay basically whatever price people ask for if they want to rent in Engadine. This would be good from an investment point-of-view but can be difficult if you are renting like myself.

Whilst there is some aspect of crime in Engadine, I do not believe it is really any different to any other suburb in the Sutherland Shire. There is not much to do at night here and I believe much of the problems stems from drop-kicks with nothing better to do when they have been out drinking. This is probably pretty typical of most areas now though with our "modern" culture.

All in all, its a pretty good suburb to live in, if you can afford it! I believe it would be best suited to couples and families with kids.
