"Great place to raise a family"

A community like no other I've seen, Engadine is fast becoming one of the Sutherland Shire's popular suburbs due not only to value for money for housing but the fact that everything a young family needs can be found here. Sporting teams, local schools along with a growing cafe & restaurant presence for the adults all within a short drive of the Royal National Park and a number of beaches where you can beat the crowds.

"Engadine"

Very family oriented suburb with good recreational facilities and schools It has a good community feel low crime rate and close proximity to the Royal National Park and south coast beaches. It only lacks a big department store and a movie theatre but they are close by anyway

"Good suburb for family"

I have lived here for 2 years. A peaceful suburb for family.
Engadine is close to Royal National Park. There are many bush tracks near Engadine so you can explore. You can visit the less crowded beach in the National Park.

It's close to the shopping centre.

Education is good as well. My son is happy to go to Engadine Public School.

New houses in Engadine are not many. Most of the houses are old.

"The best suburb for families in the Shire!"

We moved here a year ago and it has been fantastic. Unbeatable lifestyle, close to the city, beaches, national parks etc, great local School "Marton Public School" for primary and St John Bosco or Engadine High for High Schools.
My family couldn't be happier!

"Engadine is Booming!"

We moved here from Mascot and as professionals we needed to still be close enough to commute to work in the city and live in a safe friendly suburb. Engadine ticked all the boxes.
We have lived in other areas of shire such as Oyster Bay, Gymea and Cronulla and these areas haven’t come close to what Engadine has to offer.
Big blocks, shopping centre, RMS, great Schools, community spirit. I could go on and on what Engadine has to offer.

"Engadine - A friendly community"

A large family-oriented town with a fantastic community.
Filled with people in all stages of life.
It has several schools, Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, and a large number of specialty stores.
Services NSW and The Reject Shop will be coming back soon too.
It is only a short drive to Cronulla beaches and the beaches in the Illawarra area.
It borders the Royal National park and Heathcote National Park, so there is access to plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails.
A fantastic area for families.

"Isolated but safe"

Education not excellent, transport options aren't of great deal, as not all train services from Central go through to Engadine. There is an aquatic and leisure centre and it is in close proximity to beaches, but there are very scarce dining, shopping and transport options. Greater variety would be beneficial, especially in education and shopping sectors, because Engadine is a suburb dominated by families with children rather than professionals.

"Ideal for the young or growing family!"

Bordered by National Park and bush land, but still close (30 mins) to Cronulla or Wollongong beaches. Quick trip to south coast or city by train. Best value for money in the Sutherland Shire, all price ranges and types of homes available. Plenty of quiet culdesacs, new parks, Anzac Sporting Facilities with top notch pool and gym. Heaps of childcare centres and high quality public or catholic school options. A lot of shopping in main street, just lacks a "Kmart type" store, but that keeps it quiet and country feel. Downside is lack of parking around town, tight street now footpath has been widened, do sometimes get the smell of the tip and sound of the army firing practice, and also if you are close to the bush you could get rats or snakes :) Also, too hilly if you like a nice bike ride !!....but overall, low crime, and ideal for raising a large family !!

Great for

  • Country living
  • Family friendly
  • Friendly people
  • Heaps of very good schools
  • Very low crime
  • Close to the beach
  • Large shopping centre

Not great for

  • Smell of tip
  • Sound of army guns
  • Pests with living near bush
  • Very large suburb

"It's a bit like western Sydney but in the shire"

People are fairly bogan-like. Parks and greenery are nice but too far out from rest of shire. Inconvenient to get to

Not great for

  • Feels more like western Sydney than the shire

"The best place in The Shire & Sydney to live"

An extremely friendly & safe suburb. Occupied by families, singles & professionals alike. Fantastic public transport. Every shop that you could possibly need only minutes from your home. Great places to eat & socialise. Very large suburb. Only 10 minute drive to Stanwell Park Beach. Housing prices continue to saw due to overwhelming demand and occupants have a lot of house pride with many homes being renovated, updated and built new. An abundance of space, greenery & fresh air and away from all the traffic & smog. It has a holiday feel even though you're still in Sydney. The true gem of The Shire.

Great for

  • Close to the beach
  • Large shopping centre
  • Friendly people
  • Heaps of very good schools
  • Very low crime

Not great for

  • Can be a little quiet at times

"A big country town in Sydney"

Engadine is a great friendly suburb with a bit of country charm. It is situated right on the national park, only 15 minutes to a number of beaches, 30 minutes to Wollongong and 35 minutes to the Sydney CBD, Engadine provides the best of both worlds.

With Coles, Woolies, Franklins and Aldi there is a lot of options for shopping. Also, a good number of restaraunts scattered throughout the suburb give plenty of variety when you want to eat out.

Engadine is a huge suburb (the largest size wize in the world I believe), so there is a great variety of property available.

Great for

  • Very low crime
  • Heaps of very good schools
  • Friendly people

Not great for

  • Very large suburb
  • Can be a little quiet at times

"A great place to live!"

I have had the fortune of living in this postcode since I was born, although not always in the same suburb.

Engadine is certainly good for many things, and would appeal to many people for different reasons. The air is clean and the bush is plentiful. There are many properties with bush views and many are right on the bush itself.

Engadine also has good facilities for shopping (mainly for groceries) and is essentially the grocery "hub" if you like of at least half of the Sutherland Shire and even down as far as Helensburgh. There is a Woolworths, Coles, Franklins and soon to be Aldi. There is also Medicare and an RTA office. There are a couple of good gyms as well.

Public transport is not too bad with buses to the train station, but you would do well with a car to travel the distances as it is a VERY large suburb geographically.

The downside really is affordability. Whilst this means that you are likely to get a good resale value for your property, it can also make it quite difficult to live here. There are quite limited numbers of rental property (units/townhouses especially) in Engadine and there is always many people waiting to rent them. The result is that people pay basically whatever price people ask for if they want to rent in Engadine. This would be good from an investment point-of-view but can be difficult if you are renting like myself.

Whilst there is some aspect of crime in Engadine, I do not believe it is really any different to any other suburb in the Sutherland Shire. There is not much to do at night here and I believe much of the problems stems from drop-kicks with nothing better to do when they have been out drinking. This is probably pretty typical of most areas now though with our "modern" culture.

All in all, its a pretty good suburb to live in, if you can afford it! I believe it would be best suited to couples and families with kids.

"A wonderful place to live!"

Engadine is great for families, with friendly neighbourhoods- most streets doing Christmas streets parties!
If you speak to the residents in Engadine, most have lived in Engadine forever and would't have it any other way.
With great schools, shops & restaurants and of course great bush and valley views in most of Engadine its a real treasure to live in Engadine.
The best thing about Engadine is it is away from the hussle and bussle of the rest of the Shire and a quick trip to down the coast.
