Reviews of Lantana Road, Engadine
"Sydney's Friendliest Suburb"
Lantana Rd is a very well maintained road that runs through Engadine. Most traffic that flows through Lantana Rd is generally heading towards Kingswood Rd, whereby they make a left turn onto Kingswood Rd. This means that Lantana Rd beyond the Kingswood Rd turn off is vey quiet, and in my opinion the prime section of Lantana Rd to live.
At this end of Lantana Rd you only have local residents driving their cars, making it a very low traffic area, and very safe for children to play in the front yards.
There is a well frequented corner store on Lantana Rd which makes it very convenient for everyday purchases like bread and milk on the way home. The couple that run the store are very hard working and very friendly, and generally know most regular's names.
There is also a new park with play equipment that has been constructed on Lantana Rd, and this has turned out to be a very popular place for families and friends to gather. It is not uncommon every afternoon to see the local children playing on the equipment, in what is a very safe and open area. On weekends you often see families and friends gathering for bbq's and picnics at the Lantana Rd park. It really has turned out to be a real plus for the area.
The residents in Lantana Rd are a mix of people who have lived in the street for many years, and those who have lived in Engadine most of their life. It really is a family orientated area and has a real sense of community spirit and looking out for each other. People walk their dogs every morning and afternoon and will often stop for a chat or wave hello as they walk past your house. Neighbours in our experience are very friendly, and it is the type of suburb whereby they will collect your mail or bring your rubbish bins in on the days you are away. This is a rare thing in other Sydney suburbs, and what makes Engadine a real gem to those who live here.
Their are approximately 4 primary schools in Engadine and several high schools catering for all students. The standard of these schools is exceptional.
Shopping is great in Engadine, with several large stores here including Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, Franklins, McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Reject Shop and many smaller stores to meet everyone's needs. Due to the size of the suburb and the surrounding area, it is very well serviced. The advantage also to the local shopper is that the Westfield's Shopping Mall at Miranda is only a 10 minute drive away.
Public transport is very good in Engadine with a local train station and a good bus service. Approximate train travel time into the city is 50 minutes.
Travel time by car to Sydney Airport is approximately 35 minutes, and if you head south from Engadine, it is approximately 30 minutes to Wollongong University, a university with a world renowned reputation of excellence. It is generally quicker for students living in Engadine to travel to Wollongong University rather than drive or use public transport to Universities located in and around Sydney. Upon saying that, travel time to most Universities in Sydney from Engadine is less than one hour.
If the beach is beckoning, then it is a mere 15 minute drive by car to the beautiful beaches of Cronulla, or for a weekend away, it is under two hours drive south to the pristine beaches of Jervis Bay, well known for their white sands and whale watching and dolphin watching tours.
Engadine is basically across the road from the Royal National Park, which is beautiful for hiking, mountain bike riding, camping and a nice drive to the beaches to Bundeena for a day trip.
Overall, Engadine is a great place to live, and a suburb whereby there are trees and lots of green space. It is a great place to bring up a young family in a safe, virtually crime free suburb of Sydney. For those who want the convenience of Sydney without the full on hustle and bustle, then Engadine is for you. You will notice the community spirit straight away, and will be made to feel like you have been a resident for many years. A big thumbs up from us.

Thanks so much for such an informative review. We are a young family looking to buy in engadine in the near future. I've grown up innthe eastern suburbsand housing there is becoming very unaffordable - at least for a house. We are excited to embark on a new lifestyle in Engadine! Can I ask a question, are there any known 'bad parts/streets' of Engadine? At present we are looking in the area of towards the end of Kingswood Rd eg, warilda ave. It seems a little further out?
Would appreciate any feedback you had. Thanks.
