Hawthorne

"Aircraft Noise a Major Issue"

Hawthorne is a great suburb. Safe, friendly neighbours, and an excellent thriving retail street.

Two major issues with the suburb though. Firstly the new runway of Brisbane airport flies directly over the suburb. It doesn’t matter which part, the majority of all north bound flights will come to the new runway so the multiple flights from cairns etc all scream down through the suburbs. There can be as many as 4-5 planes in 30 minutes. Worse is that they start at 6am in the morning and continue till 11pm.

From a new built house, it measures about 60-65 decibels indoors with the windows closed. Outside measures 70-82 decibels. This is without double glazed windows which would unlikely help much.

Keep in mind this is COVID air craft numbers, likely worse when international travel finally opens. the qatar and Emirates 787s make the house tremble with noise.

Other issue is the traffic on Wynnum road during peak hours. It’s a car park at peak hours, takes 30 mins to get into the city despite being inner ring so called. Wynnum road is a complete roadblock. Other way is around through gateway bridge but it’s a $4.80 toll each way to go north.

If I had the choice, I wouldn’t buy anywhere in this peninsula. Bulimba, balmoral, Hawthorne, and nearby are all affected by air traffic noise very badly.

good review simonm123 - would there be other suburbs comparable to bulimba/hawthorne that you can recommend that don't have same issues with flight noise? thanks
