Balga

"Balga: Starting Point"

Just in case you dont know Balga is a Suburb that used to be ridiculed for its disadvantage. This is changing substantialy but the dirty T-Shirt and tracky dack incidence out in the streets is still way too high. Take a drive through the place and its still possible to play junk-heap in the front yard bingo. My brother in Law used to live in the suburb so I have been a periodic observer of the spot for a decade. Long term its going to undergo a slow process of gentrification but like Rockingham its probably 20 years untill it becomes derirable(read braggable) Meanwhile schools are well below average and it depends on your status to determine if the fact that prices have trippled in 10 years is good or bad. It will be an investment hot-spot in years to come but those chosing to live here had better alarm.........well everything.

  • Great Proximity to city and Freeways
  • A couple of terrific public parks

Not great for

  • Crime
  • Education
  • Public Transport dodgey

Considering you have never actually lived here, I find it insulting for you to even feel you have the right to comment, let alone bag out the area. I have lived in this area for 29 years and I have had no trouble and never been broken in to. Which my friends in 'better' areas cannot say. Yes it has some 'undesirable' tenants in some pockets but don't all areas? It's never going to lose it's bad rap while outsiders like yourself continue to misinform others. I have great neighbors, and considering they are selling up a lot of the rentals it will only get better. The area has always been confused with surrounding areas ie: Westminster, koondoola, mirrabooka and girrawheen. It's a shame that the media are not accurate as 9/10 it is one of the surrounding areas yet it must sound better to say Balga. We have a great gym next to dan murphys and even they say they are located in Warwick! Honestly what hope does this give Balga in lifting the bad name when even our positives aren't recognized as Balga.

Warnbro

"Hoons Boguns and a beautiful Beach"

I lived with my Family in Warnbro for 12 Months.
I have never regretted leaving. Dont be suprised to see twits doing burnouts in your Street as Warnbros hoon culture is ever present. Pacific Fair shopping centre is dreary(a match for the suburb) place.

The local schools are amongst the worst performed in Australia.....If you dont believe me have a look at the Govt education website.

P.S I still own a Home in Old Warnbro and values wont improve untill the cheap housing fades away and with it go the unemployed and the underemployed. Check back on Warnbro in about 20 years....might move back there myself then. Meanwhile it can be righty proud of its well earned ranking of 113th best suburb in Perth.

Great for

  • Beautiful Warnbro Sound Beach
  • Cheap

Not great for

  • Crime rates

Karratha

"K-Town Review"

My wife and I lived in Karratha for 4 years. She cried when I said I was leaving my work and leaving Karratha. Its not just a town its a community. It is in many ways a highly unique place. Almost no-where has as many highly skilled, positive and forward thinking people as Karratha. The Spirit of the North west is a real thing. Every thing we touched turned to Gold in K-Town from property investments to lasting friendships. My wife and I agree that spending those 4 years in Karratha was in essence a "Privilege"

Great for

  • Amazing Vibrant and Pulsating
  • Wickham Back Beach
  • Spirit of the North West

Not great for

  • Stinking Hot
  • Expensive but youre getting paid a motsa
  • Very social, theres no relaxing in K-Town

Northam

"Been there 6 Months...and I'm staying!"

Im a FIFO worker who came to Northam because my wifes a Northam Girl. Northam constantly suprises me. Its obviously not Claremont but its has a pleasant rural aspect and its housing is 75% cheaper. I was there when the winds hit in Feburary and saw first hand the generousity and spirit of the townsfolk. It is still a true country town wheras in my view York is full of city "types". Im not a snob but you can get a decent Coffee and a meal. In reality Perths just down the road anyway for those exotic experiences and weekends away when required. It takes about the same time to get into Perth as it does to get from Rockingham to Perth in the traffic.
There are some good schools here Northam Primary and St Joesephs for my kids age group. There are an abundance of parks and recreation areas and overall the main street has many interesting old buildings which go well beyond the turgid shopping malls which populate many the desolate urban areas of Perth.

Great for

  • Virtualy crime free
  • Natives are friendly
  • Pretty in the Winter

Not great for

  • Parts of West Northam are shabby
