"Great suburb for families, singles and couples close to city"

This suburb has a lot to offer, it has good train station and links into the city, Edwardes lake park is a lovely green spot for walks, picnics etc, and there is a good choice of primary schools and secondary schools. It also has a spacious feel which many suburbs don't have. Preston Market is a couple of train stops away or 5m drive and is excellent for food shopping, eateries and cafe. It's also well placed for La Trobe Uni, RMIT and if you travel for work you will like how close it is to the airport.

Great choice of primary schools? Nope this is not true, as a parent with primary school children we have been straggling to put our kid on the local primary schools with poor quality standard.

Box Hill North

"Quiet family friendly but everything on your doorstep - transport, schools, shopping, parks, hospital"

I love that Box Hill North is quiet and family friendly with good primary and secondary schools. You can get to these places on foot and you see many families/kids walking to school everyday. On your doorstep is the train station and 109 tram at Box Hill, fantastic restaurants, good bus network and Box Hill hospital. Westfield Doncaster is a 5 minute drive or 5 minute 903 bus ride away. I leave the car a lot and walk to most places. Friendly feel and pleasant, has a sense of history which is something I like. Teenagers like the fact they can get around easily without relying on mum/dad all the time. It is also well placed geographically, near enough to eastern freeway, easy to get to city, to eastern suburbs or SE (beaches). I'm glad we moved here.

Doncaster

"Very green but transport woeful"

Lived here for ten years, left in 2017 and don't regret it. Doncaster is lovely, green and hilly, great for walks and fairly serene. For everything else, e.g. train, tram, hospital, secondary schools, I have had to leave the suburb to search elsewhere as found that these amenities were lacking somewhat. Used to take the bus to the city and in the last three years the overcrowding got worse - standing room only even before the bus reached the Park n Ride. The fact that there are only buses is a big negative for me. I had to use the car to get to most places and that wasn't the lifestyle I was after. Now live in a suburb where the car gets left at home more, I get more exercise walking to shops, train etc.

Box Hill North. Theres the train, tram, buses, zoned for a primary school that also has a kindergarten. Been fantastic for our family.

My only concern about Box Hill area is it seems quite busy, but it's good to hear you found a great fit! It's useful to hear from actual people about living in certain suburbs.

Box Hill North is the quiet cousin of Box Hill, much greener, quieter and no high rises, we love it.
