"Close to perfect"

So close to the beaches and cafe's of Huskisson and Vincentia yet so far away from the cares of the world. Surrounded by farmland yet 5 minutes drive from the ocean. Good local spirit with a good corner store for the everyday items and a regular monthly market. Relaxed village feel that's whisper quiet all day long.

Great for

  • 5 minutes drive to the beach.
  • 15 minutes drive to major shopping in Nowra
  • Relaxed village atmosphere

Not great for

  • No shops or liquor outlet.
  • No public transport to speak of
  • Can be a bit unnerving if you like excitement

"Great place to live or holiday"

Very quiet and safe area for families and singles with a love of the water and the great outdoors. Fantastic boat ramp offering access to Jervis Bay and the waters of St Georges Basin. New shopping centre to be built in Vincentia (8klms away) will provide jobs and negate the need to go to Nowra for the weekly shop. Affordable housing in a suburb that can't grow anymore due to the surrounding national park. Medical facilities close by. Highway access is excellent and Sydney and Canberra are about two and a half hours away.

Great for

  • Surrounded by national parks and water.
  • Very quiet location with good local shopping centre
  • Great access to the highway for city dwellers.

Not great for

  • No major shopping in area, closest is Nowra
  • No public transport to speak of
  • No nightlife

Vincentia

"nearly as good as"

Nice suburb with older style houses many of which are undergoing renovation and refurbishment. Short distance to boat ramp and beaches. Quiet and safe but a bit dull so it's not recommended for singles or couples. Nearby Sanctuary Point offers better value and has more on offer in all areas of rating.

Sanctuary Point

"A great place for families of all ages"

Surrounded by water with fishing and boating facilities in abundance. Good country club that provides for the Golfer and Lawn bowler and those that like Thai/Chinese/Australian food. Suburb has everything with a large doctors surgery, library, local social centre, good regional shops and cafe's. Housing is affordable and caters for a range of tastes and needs. Safe environment for all ages. Major hospital only twenty minutes away in Nowra. New shopping centre to be built this year (2010) which will have an Aldi, Big W, Woolworths and fifty speciality shops only five minutes away by car.

It's 2014 now and still no shopping centre, only ice/meth junkies after dark, please don't go out of a night, or once it is dark. Feral little white racists will bash and rob you, some have even been stabbed.

We are moving to Sanctuary Point very soon, your comment has made me quite nervous. Is it the crime rate bad everywhere else too?

ChloeC

Laurie, we are moving to Sanctuary Point very soon. Your comment has made me quite nervous!! Are you able to elaborate on the crime rate? What we should look out for?

JennyA

Chloe, did you make the move? I am looking at moving to Sanctuary Point and would like a more recent perspective

ChloeC

made the move but only temporarily. The time that we spent there was lovely, there are some dodgey areas but if you navigate towards the newer estates you won't have an issue.

Ive lived here 3 yrs and find it delightful we are near Palm Beach and Greville Corner Store and think its the best area, so peaceful, we love it.We heard stories before we moved but they were unfounded believe me,hope that helps you make a decision btw we were told not to buy too close to local shops as was rowdy at holiday times .

I'm thinking of buying in Sanctuary Point from Tassie and wondered what the average temperatures would be in the summer? Would it be cooler than Sydney?

Hi there. Just wondering if there are any current (May 2019) comments on how things are at Sanctuary Point now. With crime and in general. Im considering retiring to the area.

I too would like some up to date comments about living at sanctuary point. Ive been told that some parts are better than others. What are considered the good and bad parts of sanctuary point.

It is getting better and better especially after brand new police station built at sanctuary point. Cctv near local shops and part of school. Nature is the winning point in this area. Clean air and great beaches. Drive by car 2-3 hours from sydney/airport. Great schools and childcare. Down part is cannot rely on public transportation, car is a must in my opinion. I have been living in sanctuary point for about 7-8 years. I see how this area has been improved and I think it needs better facilities for young people, maybe like sport centre (indoor basketball, badminton, soccer, etc). Great for young family, eldery, professional. Job is ok to find here as long as you have license and registered car and willing to find it or ask around.

Moved to Sanctuary Point 2006 as a single lady in 50s. I have been very happy here lived in different areas of Sanctuary Point.
There were a few cases of drug houses when I came here, but has been cleaned up now. There is now a new Police Station near the main shops, this has helped.
There are plans for the shopping centre to be rebuilt and improved so opens up like a mall.
The shops are sufficient for goods and produce. Shop similar to Reject shop. Top butcher, BWS. Chinese, great fish and chips, IGA, real estate x 3, Florist, great bakeries x 2, op shop, Bendigo bank, chemist, Pizza, PO, Ultra Sound, physio, +.
The Country Club is quite modern and has a variety of foods, entertainment, lawn bowls, tennis, Great golf Course plus smaller sub clubs within the mother club.
There is also Vincentia Golf Club which the club acquired.
Both these golf courses are surrounded by bush and trees, the wild life is prolific.
Footie fields.
Jervis Bay is so beautiful with several boat ramp access.
The Basin is a large body of water also with boat access. The fishing is phenomenal.
Plenty of bush walks and a pathway for walking from here to Vincentia. Then continues along Bay to Huskisson. Beautiful beaches. Also have surf beaches close by.
The housing situation is good with new housing being built. Prices vary but can still buy under $500,000 including other suburbs close by. 2 homes for older Australians with own accommodation and nursing home facilities attached.
Service station and mechanic.
A car is needed in this area as there is limited transport, a bus does a loop run around Sanctuary Point to Nowra. The bus stops at Vincentia Marketplace which is a large shopping mall with Aldis and Woolworths food shops an award winning chemist, pathology, optometrist, bakery , cafes etc.
Sanctuary Point is 20 to 30 minutes south of Nowra.
Great primary school in Sanctuary Point and high school at Vincentia serviced by school buses.
Great for families, professionals etc .
I absolutely love this place, its a paradise. Plenty of fishing spots, prawning. Lovely people. Simply the best. I had better stop now singing its praises.
Well run gym and swimming centre with 2 pools for older and youngsters, swimming classes, coffee shop.
