I have worked as a relief teacher in all of Port Augusta's primary schools over several years. Surprisingly, they are all pretty good. Facilities are first class. Leadership is generally strong and the teachers are for the most part committed, experienced and talented in the work that they do. There is also a strong sense of community in each of the schools extending to relationships between Indigenous, migrant and non-Indigenous Australians (in a big town with perhaps the largest proportion of Indigenous Australians in the country). In terms of ranking based on equal ratings for leadership, teaching, sense of community and facilities I would put Port Augusta West as best. Second, Flinders View. Third, Stirling North. Fourth, Augusta Park. Fifth, Willsden. And sixth, Carlton. I have not rated the Catholic college, Caritas, as I am yet to work there.
