Looking for a home in Woonona?

"One of the best in Wollongong"

Woonona is an idyllic and elite suburb, it is, alongside Russell Vale, the start of the northern suburbs. Woonona presents as a lucrative opportunity for Sydney buyers to secure a great home, although Woonona and many other Northern suburbs were previously working class, many of the older style cottages in Woonona East are currently being replaced by larger, architecturally designed homes, making way for gentrification and a significant increase in property prices.

Many homes either have a view of the escarpment or a view of the beach and the ocean, and the beach is only a few minutes drive from most houses in Woonona, one of the many reasons this suburb is a popular lifestyle change for Sydney-siders.

It is a great location for families as both of the primary schools and the high school in Woonona are fantastic and have experienced a significant surge in popularity and reputation in the last few years. There is also an abundance of catholic or private schools available. There are a multitude of parks and facilities to choose from, with multiple shopping locations available in the circle and the Woonona shopping village on the Princes Highway, as well as the Woolworths close by in Bulli.

The Edgewood Estate and the Pioneer Beach Estate are particularly ideal for families as they foster a great sense of community with the Christmas lights displays frequently published in the Illawarra Mercury, both estates are also popular with children and families for Halloween.

Woonona is also convenient, having a train station, multiple bus services and being linked to other suburbs with the Princes Highway and Memorial Drive. Woonona is definitely worth a look for buyers and renters wanting a vibrant yet laid-back suburb.

"Perfect! Cafes, restaurants and the great beaches!"

A beautiful relaxed place with a great school. Surrounded by amazing beaches, great restaurants, cafes and close to everything the perfect place to bring up your family. Prices are similar to some western Sydney suburbs with nearly the same travel time into the city. If your after quality of life 10/10.

"Coming home is like a holiday every day!"

We moved from Bondi last year and we're loving our new home. I work in Sydney and commute which takes me about 1&1/4 hrs each way. Considering it used to take me 40 minutes from Bondi that's not too bad, especially as we picked up a huge 4 bedroom house for less than we sold our 2 bedroom apartment for, plus we're up on the hill so we've got awesome ocean views! It's a total paradise for the family, with our choice of clean beaches and fantastic playgrounds. The new Bulli foragers market is well worth a look with live music, fresh/organic produce and just a really chill vibe- on every Sunday. There's plenty of local nightlife (although with two young kids what would we know) and the local restaurants are very good. Some weekends we head down to the Southern Highlands (45 min drive) or along the South Coast to places like Berry (1hr drive).

The area seems to be kicking off with a new Woolworths going in at the corner of Memorial Drive and Princes Hwy, plus the state government is preparing to extend Memorial Drive to connect it to Bulli pass which will make the area more accessible and an easier commute.

Great for

  • Property prices going up quickly
  • Chilled Byron Bay vibe
  • Easy access to Sydney
  • Climate
  • History
  • Local shops
  • Outside living; beaches and bush on the doorstep
  • Peaceful

Not great for

  • Express trains only from Thirroul

We are looking to move to this area. It looks and sounds perfect. We have a 6 year old son, do you know what the schools are like? Both primary and high school? Thanks!

"Great value, great lifestyle"

With houses less costly than Thirroul and of a more varied and better stock, Woonona is a real bargain. Sydney commute is just over an hour door to door and Wollongong provides the bigger stores for when you don't want to go into the City. Plenty of shopping and eating options and best off all some great beaches to wind down on. Turn away from the beach and you have the magnificent Illawarra Escarpment full of trails to hike and bike in. Need more? The Royal National Park is 15 minutes away and provides an even bigger playground.

Not great for

  • Getting pricier
  • Not as undiscovered as it once was!

"Woonona"

Woonona is great spot to live and vist. This surburb I find that im forever having enquires from locals and Sydney buyers looking for a peice of paradise. Woonona is so close to everything you need and for our Sydney buyers close to work and you can still relax and forget about the rat race.
The suburb has a strip of commerce along the highway and several historic buildings. It is mostly light density residential, though some new two storey buildings have been made. The local beach is known for surfing conditions and surfers frequent it during high wave times. A good swell will bring in many locals. There are a variety of breaks including the northern side of the rocks, the southern side and the famous "Dorrigo Ave". If your looking to purchase a new home check out Woonona

"Super Area, Surf, Parks Schools and Cafes"

Its a gem of spot , close enough to Sydney but far enough away ,Ha ,Ha. This area has surf , Patrolled beaches, Cafes , Bike/walk tracks along the beach, great schools and parks. All with the bonus of public transport to take you to Sydney in under an hour. This area is unbelievable in value when you compare to the prices of Southwestern Sydney. P.s. its also generally cooler in summer, and warmer in winter due to being so close to the water and sea breeze. So the secrets out, get in while you can!!!!
