Is York a good town to live near? I have 2 young teenagers and considering moving from Victoria.

Also interested in Kellerberrin, York, Quairading and Tammin or around those areas but with access to high schools within reasonable distance. I'm looking at buying a house with some land so I'm pretty self sufficient although not an amount I can't handle(want chooks, fruit trees and to grow my own vegetables) and want to get out of the rat race. Any advice from those with experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
