"Makes you feel welcome"

Beautiful views, friendly town, love the weather and a wonderful safe place to relax.
Primary schools and kindergarten are fantastic however the high school has there fair share of issues and finding parents are seeking alternatives.
Best to do your research.

"Escape to the country"

We are empty-nesters and we bought farmland in Alexandra just over a year ago...our dream of escaping to the country. The local people are very friendly and have been so welcoming to us (we have already attended two Christmas 'street' parties!). People smile and say hello as we walk down the street.

We are interested in the gold mining history and the main streetscape is lovely, with a pub on each corner and a National Trust Post Office and Law House. The shops provide all the necessities, with a great supermarket open til about 9pm everyday. Most of the shops are shut on a Sunday including the Bakery, which we found a little odd.

It's important to know that the hospital is great and has just had a major up-date. There are a few doctors in town, as well as other medical professionals eg. dentist, physio, etc.

The Murrindindi council has been an absolute pleasure to deal with! They were so quick and friendly in dealing with our building permits.

We live in the Yarra Valley at the moment, and so it's a very easy drive on good roads. We have made the right choice and can't wait to move there.

"Great place to live"

We first moved to Alexandra 15 years ago. I still remember total strangers saying hello to me as I walked down the street.
Our children quickly made friends at school and very soon had a busy social network of friends. They were able to be involved in many sporting and social activities even though they were not super athletes. The focus was on involvement.
There are also groups for adults such as garden and camera clubs, Lions, Rotary, Probus etc.

The shopping in town is good and has all your basic need. The supermarket may cost a little more than Melbourne but it has a wonderful variety of products. The staff are helpful and home delivery is free.
We have a great hospital which provides many services.
We are only 1 1/2 hours drive from Melbourne's Sth Eastern or Northern suburbs so shopping or theatres are easy to do.
From time to time we talk about moving but can't think of anywhere else that we would get all the great things that we have right here.

"Great tourist spot on the way to Mt Buller"

Alexandra sees many tourists passing through it on their way to Mount Buller ski resort but for the 2000 or so people who reside here the town has much more to offer. Perhaps best suited to families and retirees, Alexandra is based roughly 140km from Melbourne and provides brilliant access to the Goulburn Valley and Maroondah Highways. Home to a community radio station, an Aussie Rules football team, a horse racing club and two golf courses, Alexandra contains the Timber Tramway Museum and the National Trust Classified Post Office and Law Courts. The town also boasts its own railway station, a monthly bush market, an annual art show, an agricultural show and the Truck, Rod and Ute Show.
