"Love Bald Hills!"

Moved into Bald Hills area in June after living close to the city. It was affordable for us and has good schools near by. We love it. We know everyone in our street and have a fantastic coffee shop, pub, pizza place, parks all near by. As for anything being stolen, this definitely does not apply to us. We've left all sorts of things out on the lawn since we've been here and no problems at all. I can't wait for more people to move out this way.
Pros
  • Handy to everything in a 5klm radius
  • Very easy access to Nth,Sth,East,West
  • Has an olde country towne feel to the area
  • Established community
Cons
  • Need some more exciting people to move out here.

Bald Hills is a really nice suburb around Rothbury st. is great, prices are increasing rapidly, but the best part is it's quiet, safe and the people are friendly, Bald Hills primary has very good result and there are plenty of local clubs etc. I would highly recommend you take a look and ignore the old negative emails here as they are past history and no longer relevant.

"Easiest place to live"

Have lived here for 20 years and brought up my children here... such an easy place to live, less than an hour to the Sunshine Coast, 16km to city, easy access to airport, shopping great and all within 10 minutes, good schools and train and bus at the door. Have always felt safe and secure, minimum crime. In addition, the general vista of the suburb is pleasant and appealing from the Bald Hills flats to the riverside walking paths and access to watersports on Pine River and Deep Water Bend fishing and picnic spot. Overall, a great area to live, and very encouraging to see quality coffee shops appearing on the horizon.

"This area is nothing to rave about...."

The reviews so far for this area appear to be from people who used to live in the area as this area is certainly nothing to be raving about! I built my house in Bald Hills over 20 years ago and it was a great place to live and we were surrounded by other high income friendly neighbors. However over the years that has changed, and the majority of the houses in the area were sold and then rented to low income couples and families, meaning the houses are no longer looked after and many yards are seen with multiple rusted car wrecks and boat bits and pieces amongst over grown grass and gardens full of weeds. Anything that's not locked or bolted down is stolen (However the thieves will give it a go anyway). There have been many drug raids over the years and the resale value of other houses due to this fact have dropped to an all time low which make buying a house if you dont intend to rent it, a very bad financial move. There is a sewerage plant located (Near the duckpond as it is known to the locals) that is absolutely putrid and can be smelt from a few hundred meters away when the wind picks up. The road that crosses the duckpond floods every time it rains and when it rains for more then a few hours it makes it completely un-crossable so you have to exit via Kluver st which also floods due to low spots and Highway run off trapping you in the estate. The Tinchi Tampa Wetlands is often where stolen cars are seen abandoned along with old mattresses and dead kangaroos. It's also a breading ground to Mosquitos, Snakes, Rats, mice and cockroaches which make regular appearances in everyones backyards. The parks are rarely mowed and the play equipment is covered in Graffiti and littered with food wrappers. Many teenagers hoon up and down the streets on Motor Bikes as there is nothing in the area to keep them occupied. The Cars and trucks traveling on the Highway and Gympie Arterial due to being so close to the houses are extremely loud during the night! The houses are all built on clay meaning over the years many houses have developed cracks and severe structural damage due to ground movement. (I built my house on a floating slab so avoided this) There a very few places to eat out and the shops are not within walking distance so you have to take the car. The local Centrelink unfortunately attracts the wrong sort of people into certain parts of the area and unfortunately they spoil it for others. The only positives of the area are the wide streets, Good transport system and phone reception. Im glad I got out of the area when I did!
Rose Kelly
Rose Kelly Pete, am disappointed and surprised you had this experience living in an area that I proudly call home and my workplace. I have lived in Bald Hills for 20 years and have found it safe and easy to live in. My children have grown up here and regularly use public transport to go to the city for school and now Uni and work. There are thankfully only a handful of properties in Bald Hills that are affected by flooding, unlike many of Brisbane's suburbs. In relation to rentals Bald Hills has a lower percentage of rental properties that the State average per suburb and indeed for the Brisbane average. I can only say that you must have had an unusually difficult set of circumstances as this does not reflect living in Bald Hills generally. The locals love it, we have had good growth in properties and I expect this to continue into the future as the market stabilises.

Pete01 Hi Rose, Im glad you have enjoyed living in Bald Hills more so then I did. I was constantly having things stolen from my property, my neighbours car had the locks smashed in an attempt to steal it on two occasions and I was constantly painting over the graffiti on my fence. Since the development on Wyampa Road the houses behind are flooded with excess run off due to the ground being built up almost 1m behind everyones fences and I don't think anyone can deny the flooding that occurs on the bridge over the duck pond. Whilst it may only put the houses on Bracken Ridge Road at risk of flooding it is still an inconvenience to the people that live in the area as they have to take an alternate route which is also prone to flooding. My children also grew up in Bald Hills and with so many great schools within a 10km radius it is a very handy place to live, however as they grew older they out grew the dated and overgrown parks and started to get bored as there was nothing for them to do within the area. We always found ourselves getting in the car to travel to other suburbs for entertainment. Now I have nothing against people renting at all, and those people that look after there homes know Im not talking about them and they would know of the people Im talking about. Gladdon street is a perfect example, there are immaculate properties mixed amongst houses that to be honest look third world. From the statistics I have which was placed in my letterbox when I was living in the suburb just a year ago 23% of houses are rented, 37% are Fully owned and the other 35% are looking to either rent or purchase. Now Bald Hills isn’t a massive Suburb so that’s a lot of houses being rented. This is great for people looking to buy an investment property to rent as stated, but with affordable rent and the local Centre Link just a bus ride away it is very tempting for people who may not have good intentions as shown buy the state of many houses. The transport is indeed very convenient which I highlighted as a bonus to the area, however it is required as nothing is within walking distance.

Stevey
Stevey hi pete i live off gladdon st and chuckled as its the bald hills i know. just last week i was mowing the grass and it started to pelt down rain so i pushed my mower under the patio and never came back to it, woke up the next morning and it was gone. i was lucky though as i found it upside down in the park. im just glad they only take things from the front yard like pot plants, garden lights and shoes and not from inside the house. im not sure if its just renters or people who have got houses then cant afford the up keep but it is a serious problem for bald hills and is affecting people trying to sell as no one can over look the dump sites just a few houses down in every street. the sewage sub station is disgusting but i dont seem to notice the smell anymore i think ive gotten used to it, the bridge on bracken ridge road does flood but since what ever they did to it a while back it dosent seem to flood ‘as much’ which is nice but it definitely floods. i fish down at deep water bend on a weekly basis and always see old lounges and smashed tvs or other items dumped on the side of the road but i find the council do a good job of cleaning it up. the rats and mice are rampant which is really embarrassing to admit and i know im not alone after speaking to the bloke who does my pest control. im fine with the kids riding motor bikes in the park as its what i did as a kid but its when they start coming up and down the street at full throttle late at night that it annoys me, but i dont blame them as there is nothing for them to do as you have said. one thing you didn't mention is the horrendous traffic on bracken ridge road of a morning that backs up from strathpine thats a pet hate. all in all bald hills is an area with its fare share of flaws which other people seem to have kept on the down low. the people coming to the area are ruining what was a great little suburb which is a real shame. im going to be selling up for work in a few months and im concerned about who is going to turn up when they see the state of some of the surrounding houses.

nick01
nick01 hi pete01 and stevey, what rose neglects to mention is she is the local real estate agent who is a big part of the problem. she tries to sell bald halls as a great area (and in some places it really is (near st pauls)) but she also rents to tenants that are less than favorable. when i called about one of her shining examples of a rental property in my street i was told, at least they pay the rent! You cant have it both ways rose, if you want to sell houses for top dollar then stop renting to losers, i'm sure you wouldn't want them living near you!

"A great place for kids and active families"

Bald hills is a great old fashioned suburb. Lots of good solid friendliness amongst the neighbours who always want to help and are interested in you. Not a day goes by that I dont have a chat to a neighbour here. Favours are always offerred and returned with gratitude and a smile. It is peacefull with lots of things to do for the kids with a great bike path, the river, off leash area, cricket grounds, playgground, loads of space for kicking the footy around. There is no excuse for staying inside and playing computer games here!! For the adults there is a fantastic local independent gym close by that offers very friendly and personal service with all the services you would expect from a huge multi national gym. There are child care facilities that are second to none, 2 primary schools (1 state primary and 1 private) as well as an excellent private secondary school not to mention a TAFE just a few kilometres away at Bracken Ridge. I dont want to live anywhere else - nor do my children.

"Lovely - country atmosphere so close to amenities; good value for money"

Lovely leafy streets and parks, great schools and public transport. Solid built houses on good sized blocks in the older parts of the suburb. Train station and reasonable bus links provide good access to Chermside and the city. Highly recommend for a family who wants room to move (or couples wanting to have a family) and retirees who perhaps want to feel like they're moved to the country without having to leave the city.
