Bargara, QLD 4670

I have lived here for most of my life. Bargara is a paradise for anyone looking for peace and quiet by the sea. Unfortunately it is VERY quiet ... all the shops are shut by 7pm so forget trying to get a takeaway after work. And sadly Bradlees is excellent for takeaway but other restaurants and cafes are not popular and for good reason. Having to drive into Bundaberg frequently for goods and services that you expect in a town of Bargara's size is inconvenient and expensive. Also, the internet available at Bargara is woeful and congested and there are currently no plans to upgrade the exchange ahead of the NBN ... which could take decades to reach here.

Fortunately Bargara does now have a small shopping centre and a gym (albeit one that closes early) ... it's about time there was a little investment and infrastructure to follow the population boom along the coastal strip.

As for pests, there are quite a few rats near the cafes and restaurants at Bauer Street and in the notorious 'turtle' that I personally would never let a child near (knowing what teenagers like doing in there at night!). There is also a substantial feral cat population around Rifle Range Beach.

The other big negative is that Bargara (and Bundaberg) are quite isolated when it comes to travelling. Flights only go to Brisbane and as Qantas/Sunstate have a monopoly the flights are very expensive.

It sounds like I'm talking it down but truly it's a paradise if you want the quiet life of fishing, walking on the beach and endless summers of perfect days ... but, like a lot of us locals you may eventually find it a little too quiet and move on.

I reckon when I'm 65 I'll be moving back here though!

We couldn't imagine a better place in which to live than Bargara. We moved here from a southern state a couple of years ago, and we've arrived in paradise!

Bargara is a small coastal community which offers the best of both "small" and "regionally-connected". It hugs the pretty coastline and is a lovely spot for both holidayers and residents, with beautiful safe beaches and a well-developed esplanade and walkways. It is very close to world-famous Mon Repos turtle rookery. Bargara also provides excellent fishing - a boatie's paradise!

Very high-quality unit developments are now emerging beach-side (but no ugly high-rises!), and the region's best-quality homes are also to be found at Bargara. Many of the streets are very quiet and neighbourly, just a few minutes' walk from a beach and enjoying sea breezes.

Bargara's climate is sub-tropical and pleasant all-year-round (on the same southern latitude as northern-hemisphere Hawaii): shorts and t-shirt wearing the whole year! Bargara misses out on the more extreme weather of the tropics, as well as the higher rainfall that seems to beset SE Queensland. The ocean is swimmable all year and stingers do not appear in the summer waters here.

Bargara is served by a vibrant town-centre with interesting shops, as well as a larger shopping centre (which includes 2 supermarkets, a medical practice, chemist, newsagent and a "Y" gym). A beautiful and long-standing feature of the town is its 18-hole golf course - together with clubhouse restaurant overlooking the ocean. Other town facilities include a large Bowls Club, some fine coffee-spots and eateries, a primary school and child-care centres.

Just 10-15 minutes drive inland from Bargara (and accessible also by the efficient bus-service) is the large regional city of Bundaberg. Here can be found the expected services including large shopping centres, hospitals, university and TAFE, choice of schools, cinemas, theatre and so on. The very easy accessibility of Bundaberg's facilities and services significantly enhances the livability of Bargara.

We've also found it to be very easy to get to Brisbane from Bargara - an easy 5-hour drive, or a pleasant ride on the electric tilt-train. The local airport at Bundaberg recently has been impressively upgraded and there are daily flights.

Bargara .... civilised seaside living!

Bargara, it wasn't till I stayed here for a few days with a friend that I realised just what a beautiful place this is, we would get up early in the morning just before sunrise and go for a walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise WOW! Spectacular is the only word I can use to describe this best of all early morning experiences.

If you haven't had an early morning sunrise on the beach don't wait to long, there's nothing like it, you have to experience it at least once in your life, I promise you, you won't regret getting up before the sun does and heading for the beach, Bargara it's Paradise.

Great holiday or sea change destination with less overcrowding. If you are into beaches, golf or just enjoying the scenery you will not be disappointed. Great to explore on your motor bike also, you can ride (or drive in your car) along scenic roads (often through cane field areas) to Burnett Heads to the north (new bridge connecting to the Portside), or via Woongarra Scenic Drive to Innes Park and Coral Cove, from there to Elliot Heads via Back Windemere Rd.

North of Bargara, or just south of Burnett Heads you will find Mon Repos Environmental Park (turtle rookery) with a beautiful beach.

Bargara itself has a new shopping centre with a big Woolies. Nielson Park to the north is nice for a visit, as is Kellys Beach or secluded Rifle Range Beach to the south.

Just off the main road between Bargara and Bundaberg is the 'The Hummock', a volcanic remnant. It offers a great vista of the surrounding countryside, spectacular sunsets and views towards Bargara and the general coastline.

I have lived in quite a few suburbs around Bundaberg including Bargara but Bargara is way over rated and overpriced. There are some bad areas to avoid and not buy and the people are not friendly and can be quite hostile ( truth from personal experience).

I got fed up with the hoons around the streets of bargara at night and the undesirables who wander around at night looking for trouble. Remember the saying…"Bargara nice place to visit but i wouldn't want to live there" !!

We found Bargara to be a nice and welcoming area. In fact, it almost seems every second person has moved here from Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast (or even Melbourne) in more recent times, which may explain the friendliness of the people as I guess no one wants to be a stranger.

The shops and cafes on Bauer St and along the Esplanade are great, and the new Woolies and Shopping complex have brought new competition to this town.

It's just 10 to 15 min drive into town (Bundaberg) for even more things to do.

pretty seaside township.. it is paradise to live here and the best thing is that their is a huge regional city only 15 minutes away that has everything u could ever need and you wouldn't even know it is there!
bargara has the best all round climate you could imagine with warm , clean , stinger free waters
also to play in. i couldn't think of a better place to raise a family.

Bargara is a peaceful town about 10-15 minutes drive East of Bundaberg. Stunning beaches, a new shopping complex and all the basic facilities you could need - doctors, vet, supermarkets, cafe's, gift shops, post office, real estate offices, gym, take away and more. Friendly locals and perfect weather (usually a little cooler than Bundaberg on those hot hot days due to the sea breeze). Recommended for all.

Bargara is on the coast just east of Bundaberg and is a great place to enjoying seeing dolphins and whale watching. Bargara is on the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef and only about 4 hours north of Brisbane. Apart from the many water sports available here the area offers golf, Go Karts, bowls, skating ring, surf schools and many other sports. The local shops are great with major department store close by at Bundaberg. There are bistros and taverns offering good meals as well as cafes and fast food outlets. Visit the many natural attractions around the area with a visit to the Mons beach turtle hatchery a must. Bargara is a great holiday destination as well as a place where you could settle with home price fairly affordable.
