Reviews of Bicheno, TAS

"A community that has made us so welcome!"

We moved to Bicheno from Qld recently with our family of 5. Our 2 young children are incredibly happy and have made lots of friends through school and the community. Our older son enjoys the trip to the high school on the bus. We have sufficient work and have built lasting relationships. Bicheno is ideal for young children and families but does leave teenagers needing more entertainment options.

Great for

  • Welcoming community
  • Great community spirit
  • Great options of things to do for young children

Not great for

  • Lack of entertainment for teenagers

We are considering a similar move. Our kids are very sporty and we were wondering if there are kid's sporting teams and competitions?

Hi there,
Although I put this initial post up ages ago, we still feel the same way. As far as sports go, a program called Active After School activities has just started up this year and the kids are loving it! My husband and I started a soccer program last year which we will continue this year too and there are a number of sport opportunities coming up with the regional sporting events (East North East teams), depending on the ages of your children. There is also football about 35 minutes away with Auskick.
Maybe see you soon!
Best wishes ;-)

We are considering moving to Hobart from Qld with our 5 children also, 4 under 9 yrs and a daughter going to University. Any opinions on the best schools? And is there any baseball? Thanks. Juli

What kind of work do you have in bicheno and is there a swimming pool there

gazandsas

Hi there. You will find considerable hospitality options in Bicheno. This would include cleaning and food service to name a few. This would be the main source of work. Yes, there is a local pool. It is a 15m indoor heated pool of varying depths and can be hired in one hour blocks at reasonable prices. Best wishes.

How do you find the transition from Qld weather to Tasmania weather?

gazandsas

I struggled a little but everyone here has a Kathmandu puffer jacket and that really helps! Hubby loves the cooler weather so he was fine. The East Coast is a good compromise, weather wise, when compared with other areas of Tasmania.

Oh thanks for that - some people say its more the wind than the cold itself

is there much work available down there?

gazandsas

The wind can be uncomfortable but again, you just get used to it. Theres plenty of work in the summer time between around October to April in hospitality, farm work in Autumn/Winter and other things to do. There are many people in town with a number of jobs, many artisans, that sort of thing.
