General Question & Insect Life :)

Hello, we are originally from Sydney relocating from Los Angeles, my main question is for my special needs son and 'bugs' - He is a little sensitive to new things and I am wondering if there is a plethora of midges or mozzies at certain times of year? My parents live Nth Qld way and they always like to complain about insects. I don't find it an issue but my husband just reminded me about my son's quirks :) Any advice most helpful and thanks!
