It is a beach at low tide - but more often than not a mudflat. Still pretty.

Some people seem to refer to the waterfront in Brighton/Sandgate as a beach (agents mostly) but sadly it isn't, i.e. no waves! However, the foreshore is sand which can be walked on when the tide goes out which is a favourite pass time for many locals. However, if you do enjoy a good beach then the fine beaches of the Sunny Coast are only 1 hour drive to the north. The foreshore from northern end of Brighton right down to the Shorncliffe pier is a lovely long walk and picturesque.
