Agree with the other guys, depends what you are looking for. A few practical ways of checking out a suburb are:

1. Using WalkScore to see what is in the area https://www.walkscore.com/
2. Using Microburbs to see what cafes/schools are in the area https://microburbs.com.au
3. Having a look at a few other tools https://www.huntergalloway.com.au/research-home-in-brisbane/

I was interested to hear the response from John who notes that best suburbs are "north side of the river, with a bias to west, within a 5km radius of the city CBD". If this is the case, Herston is the best place. We live in Herston and it marries the best of inner city, accessible living, caring neighbours with space and lots of green areas.

"Best" means many things to many people, but generally north side of the river, with a bias to west, within a 5km radius of the city CBD will be upmarket with prices to match. Having said that the inner southside within 1km of river is becoming very gentrified. Other highlights will be tops of hills that have city views (Hamilton some Dutton Park). If you need to be near water and don't mind traffic to get to CBD, Wynnum, Manly, down to Cleveland should empty the wallet - but you'll need a large boat and a sports car to keep up appearances with the neighbors.... :)
