Cairns is a spectacular place to visit with lots of wonderful things to do all with a gorgeous backdrop of lush tropical mountains and a view of the sparkling Coral Sea. Cairns City has amazing world class restaurants like the Raw Prawn, Tha Fish and the Water Bar & Grill, laid back cafes, pubs and bars so you can enjoy a cool drink and some great shopping for a bit of retail therapy.

The Cairns Esplanade Foreshore and Lagoon is the place to be with something for everyone no matter what age you are. There's a gorgeous lagoon to swim in all year round, fun picnic area and a boardwalk to walk on at sunset or run on at sunrise. The Esplanade is also host to weekly live entertainment a the Riley Hotel, so you can sit back on the grass and enjoy live music, fire twirling, animal shows and famed Cairns buskers.

First as a tourist ,then as a local. This place is true paradise in Australia.
Nothing like this. Full stop.
If you like tropical ,this is place to be. Fruits, climate ,places to go , freshwater ,schools etc etc etc.
If you don't like a bit of sweat and humidity,this is not your place.
If you ever in city, try walk on esplanade Morning, Evening . Listen to the birds.
One side is Rainforest, other side is Sea with Reef.
Finding a place to rent and buy is a bit hard, as there is very little land and low new developments.
Local are really good. 2% is racist(lower than other parts of Australia)
You will find true Australians in Indigenous people .
Some of them are addicted to drugs. (sick).
Finding a high paid job is bit difficult as most of jobs are done in Sydney and Melbourne.
But if you really want to have great life with your family and lot of outdoors. This is the place.
Very low public transport. You don't really need one.
Lots of parking apart from CBD.
Most of the professional peoples like Accountants, Lawyers etc charge a premium (Not sure why)
Pleanty of Uber.
You can walk in the City , night life is so bright.
But the place is so so beautiful.

I grew up in Cairns and went on to work for about 10 years in Sydney. Coming back to live here was a brilliant decision! The clean green environment is a blessing having lived in the big-smog. People are more relaxed here, the economy is bustling if you're prepared to work and the opportunities are rife. There are plenty of short bush walks, cycling tracks, day-trip getaways on the Tablelands, reef excursions and fishing, pubs, clubs, restaurants and bars... I could go on. Love it!
