Is Cardigan Street, Carlton, a good place to live?

I'm currently looking at renting an apartment on Cardigan Street in Carlton, and wanted a bit more information on what it's like to live in this area.

Is it safe at night? Is there much crime? Is there much to do in the area?

I've been to the area a few times, so have a rough idea of what it's like, but I'd like the perspective of a local or someone who has lived there previously before I commit to living there.

Looking forward to your replies.

This is what a user said in 2007, Cardigan St is a block from Lygon St (an Italian district famous for it's restaurants) - yet it is also situated close to the university so you get the appeal of cheap student eats with the not so cheap eats.

I highly recommend Cardigan St - it's close to trams, buses and it's walkable to the city.
