Carnarvon Street
"Cars Have Right of Way"
Without doubt, Carnarvon Street is the busiest in Broome, and in order for traffic to flow well in this town, pedestrians DO NOT have right of way – so be warned! The main shopping centre, Paspaley Plaza which houses the Coles supermarket, newsagent, pharmacy, photographic store, and other specialty shops is here, as are many other cafes, restaurants, souvenir and touristy shops. All of these are at the northern end of this long street, and as it heads south, it gives way to hotels and sand dunes, which have been claimed by the traditional owners of the land.
The very popular Roebuck Bay Hotel (“The Roey”) is also on Carnarvon – the best place to catch some live bands in action.
