the charms of cherrybrook

I dont get attached to suburbs or houses

i have a gypsy element in my makeup so i enjoy the prospect of moving and exploring new suburbs

however i must say there will be many regrets as i leave cherrybrook

didnt know much about the place when we first found the cul de sac tucked away in the older part of the suburb...the street that was to become our home for the next 20 or so years

we came from illawong...another relatively new suburb..and in many ways similar in the architecture
but i found the hills far more appealing...and am loathe to leave the hills altogether

what will i miss about the brook?
firstly
its the walk that i make with the dogs...to the shops to pick up milk or a dvd or just a run the dogpark
ill miss the doglegging route i take...where i dont have to cross any major roads or endure any noise or smells from traffic
ill miss the fact that i can walk at 10 pm and still feel safe

ill miss the village atmosphere of the shops and the fact that i can tie up my dogs and have a coffee at glorias or verve or zest
ill miss homers...best takeaway ...and they cook with cottonseed...a bonus if youre worried about cholesterol ( i find myself asking takeaway stores about what theyre cooking with and many still are resisting the changeover to the healthier choice of cottonseed)

ill miss the proximity of the high school ...my eldest used to have a good walk to and from along quiet streets

ill miss martellis and the butcher and the fish shop...have been so spoiled!
ill miss the hairdresser and the optometrist...faithful good service for many many many years

as i say goodbye to my suburb ill take in one more sunset
i swear it looks like fiji as i turn from my street into the nextlol!
i know its just the big palm trees silhouetting against the rose-pink sky and of course the only water is from the cherrybrook lakes
but ...it' s still a bit of daily paradise for me

goodbye to a place i will return to...
but it's never the same when youre just a visitor...

I think I will have to agree with you, I left Cherrybrook when I was 16 (stayed at the school til the end though). I do very much miss the suburb itself, the parks and sports grounds, the fire trails for some nice day bush walks just outside your front yard, the suburb had some great sporting clubs and a great community atmostphere (it was fun to head off to the Chinese Lantern Festival every year)

Although its interesting that a lot of the people I went to school with are more than happy to get away from there, I think thats more because the suburb it suits families instead of young adults.

If I could afford it, it would be a suburb I would choose to live - unfortunately I can not afford it, plus my other half wants to be close to a train station.
