"Poor access to public transport"

This suburb is quiet and family-friendly. However, if you need to use public transport, it is a nightmare. Also not many shopping facilities nearby

"Dingley Village: A family-friendly oasis"

Dingley Village is the perfect family suburb. ~20km from city with easy access to major arterials, and triangulated by shopping meccas Southland, Chadstone and DFO. The childcare, kinder and primary school are amazing, with Hailebury and Parkdale SC nearby. A beautiful feel, family-friendly, abundance of green wedge, open space and sporting/gym options. Cafes and restaurants are great. No train station is a bonus, keeping out blow-ins and the associated crime.

"Beautiful hidden gem"

Dingley Village is amazing. Close to Mordialloc beach and Braeside Park. Has sporting options for baseball, golf, netball, football, tennis, soccer, skatepark etc. Renovated community centre and library. Great shops and restaurants. Costco, DFO, Bunnings, Aldi, Supa IGA and Woolworths all nearby. Easy drive to Southland, Chaddy and Parkmore shopping centres. Central to Peninsula link (soon to be built Modi bypass), Eastlink, Monash and Nepean Highway. Excellent childcare, kinder and primary schools, with top school Hailebury around the corner. The Hawthorn FC relocation and the new Water Park will really put Dingley on the map so buy now before it's too unaffordable!

"Friendly, family focused suburb"

I grew up in Dingley, left and lived in Toorak, South Yarra, and various spots in inner Sydney and when looking for our family home we searched high and low through both Sydney and Melbourne for the kind of neighbourhood that I grew up in. It’s one of the only suburbs that hasn’t lost its community driven charm, where you know your neighbours, great schools, great coffee, safety and people who care about the community. We love it here.

"Good family suburb with potential"

Dingley is a great family suburb with relatively large blocks and many parks. The Hawthorne football club have acquired land and will move their playing fields to Dingley in the next 5+ years - this will most likely see the suburb flourish. Some of the people in Dingley are your upper middle class folk who can't quite afford to live in Bayside, so it can sometimes become a pis*ing contents when it comes to who's front lawn is greener or who's Renault is cleaner. That said, most people are very friendly. Public transport is ordinary in Dingley, but it is located close to lots of major roads.

On the outskirts of Dingley/Heatherton is Kingston Council's so called "green-wedge" (formerly the market gardens). More like a "brown-eyesore", this area is in desperate need of low density development or something other than rusted farm sheds, rubbish and dirt mounds.

"Lovely quiet suburb"

We moved to Dingley from Brighton East, we thought we were downgrading but we much prefer it here! The neighbours are friendlier, you can actually get a car spot down at the local shops and even just in the year that we've been here we've seen a dramatic improvement in the shops. There is no train station but to me that is a bit of a positive too as there are no 'undesirables' from other suburbs passing through. I actually feel much safer in Dingley than I did in Brighton East and the houses are half the price here! This is definitely not the kind of suburb that has a lot going on but if you're like us and enjoy peace, quiet and feeling safe then I'd definitely recommend Dingley Village.

  • Quiet
  • Community atmosphere
  • Lots of open space
  • Revitalisation of shopping area
  • Close to shopping centres
  • Safe for kids to play

"A real 'village' feel"

I've been in Melbourne since 2005 originally living in Springvale South. We moved to Dingley a couple of years ago and haven't regretted it. After travelling through neighbouring areas, you can really feel the difference when you come into Dingley. Most houses are well kept, the streets are nice and wide and people are very friendly. It's close to the beach and some great shopping. Primary schools are well catered for and of high quality shown by the fact that families from neighbouring suburbs are trying to enrol their children here but now can't due to popularity. Houses are going up in value but not complete out of the reach yet. Can see myself living in Dingley for a long time to come.

Great for

  • Safe for kids to play
  • Community atmosphere
  • Lots of open space
  • Revitalisation of shopping area
  • Close to shopping centres

Not great for

  • Horrible public transport
  • Light aircraft noise in some areas
  • Smell in some areas

"Dingley Village"

I bought a house in Dingley 18 years ago and it is the best place i have ever lived. I have lived all over australia almost. In Dingley it is a peaceful area and most people are great. We have my friends over for dinner have a great time and there are no parties that keep you up in the early days of the next morning. Parking takes less than a second to find and you can be sure to find your car exactly where you left it. Shops arund the corner shopping centers close by what more you want!!

"Lovely open spaces and friendly neighbourhood"

I live here with my young family. There are lots of big houses on big blocks. Lots of sporting clubs, parks and the beach 15 mins away. There is Parkmore, DFO Moorabbin, Southland and Chadstone within 5-20 mins away. A real friendly community feeling, there is a local "dingley dossier" produced every month. Be careful where you buy/rent as some areas are near the nursery landfills (smell) and light aircraft fly over some areas (noise). No high schools but plenty in surrounding suburbs. No nightlife at all. The shopping area is under plans and permits to rebuild.

"Nice Place But Not Much To Do"

It's a nice place but there is nothing to do when your young which leads to trouble. That is why there are so many teenagers hanging around the milk bar, football club and bus stops. Very nice houses increasing in value everyday.

"Quite Friendly Neighborhood."

I've lived in Dingley since I was born and think it's been a fantastic place to grow up. It has a real family feel to it which connects the whole town together. You can't go down to the shops without seeing a familiar face which is a rarity in a suburban town. I couldn't think of a better place to buy.

"A great area for families"

This is a nice area close to a number of beaches and major shopping centres. The downside for those working in the city would be it is starting to get a bit too far out for some.
The major shops close by include Southland and Chadstone so if you can’t get it around the corner its only going to be 10 minutes away.
There are some good schools in the area, and depending on where you are they may be within walking distance making it ideal for families. On top of this kindergartens and childcare are close by.
There are some good parks in the area including a great playground and for those with young kids you’ll know how important that is.
While there are buses and trains to service the area, the public transport coverage isn’t as good as some areas close to the city. The up side is there isn’t the same noise.
