"Hidden Gem"

What a great little suburb. Handy to everything, Dandenong close by, close to the bay, quick drive to the city, Dandenong ranges quick drive away. Easy to get to everything. Friendly community. Getting redeveloped so looking a lot better. Give it 10-15 years and it will be a really sought after place.

"Big drug problem"

While it is very low cost of living - affordable housing prices and thrifty shopping options, the town has a massive drug problem (lots of people obviously on ice). I lived there for 3 years with my partner as it was our first home to get us into the market, but we sold up in 2015 once we had our first child as we decided it was not a place we wanted to raise our family.
There are many a few schools around and while Doveton college, which starts at prep, looks great from the outside, I had spoken to many families who have kids there who were not hesitant to tell me it's not a good school.
The houses are mostly untidy, a bunch of which burnt down years ago and to this day haven't been knocked down and remain fenced off in its burnt-out state. There are parks and walking tracks which are nice until you realise they're a hot-spot for drug dealers.
I never felt safe going for walks, especially nearing dusk.
In the 3 years I lived there, 3 people were murdered.
It's locale is great! Very close to everything.

Great for

  • Only 30km to CBD

Not great for

  • Drug problem
  • Untidy
  • Schools aren't great

The school has improved thousands of government officials, teacher and visitors come to see what we do. Im a student and yesterday (01/05/2019) 80 teacher and visitors came.

I've been researching crime statistics, as I'm a researcher & looking to buy in Doveton... I'm yet to find stats matching 3 murders (?) What year did you say they happened? The crime rates are slightly below the Victorian average. Similarly to surburbs like Boronia and Bayswater where the properties are higher... I'd check the crime stats, which include 'drug related crimes' - and exercise caution, like you would in any other part of Melbourne.

"Get in while you can"

Great growing subarb, a lot of the houses are being renovated, or knocked down and rebuilt. You can still buy decent size blocks here for a good price, but would get in quickly as prices have risen and are only going to keep rising. We moved here 3 years ago, its a great location, close to shopping centres, hospitals etc. Also close to Monash Freeeay, Eastern Freeway, Princess Highway so perfect for getting around.

Great for

  • Only 30km to CBD
  • Fast developing community
  • Next to Dandenong- Border between the creeks

Rentals in Doveton

"Middle of everything"

Approx 15 mins drive to the beach, 5 -10mins drive to shopping center including Dandenong Plaza, Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre, Westfrield Fountain Gate. A lot of primary and secondary schools both in Doveton and Dandenong, medical centres, short drive to dandenong hospitals, public transport is excellent. Ideal for families who loves a backyard.

"been here and happy to live here"

what l like about living here, being a lower income earner l could afford to buy my home here twenty years ago. The services are great here with plenty of local shops where you have choices e.g. three fish and chip shops as well as pizza, chicken take away. l believe we have one of the best fish and chips shops in Melbourne here also their roast chickens are the best, l've heard other people say the same as well [better than the major chains]. A few mins drive there is Dandenong with the major shopping center there, and with all the new developments there it will flow through to Doveton making it even more attractive to people moving to the area.Plenty of public transport making it easy to get to Dandenong, Endeavour Hills and all the other surrounding suburbs. Doveton is very central to all the other major shopping centres, and easy freeway acess not having to put up with the huge traffic build up experienced further out. Over the past few years all the roads and footpaths have been renewed and repaved through out the area. There's no shortage of medical services and the Dandenong Hospital very close all the specialist medical services are very handy. There's plenty of open spaces and parklands around and plenty of sports fields. To me Doveton is the hidden gem and now people are realizing the potental of the area and what it can offer.

"Hot Spot"

Since moving to Doveton we’ve enjoyed the suburb’s proximity to well-scheduled public transport, a wide selection of shops and nearby Dandenong’s fantastic market, to name just a few conveniences. We also love the variety of cafés and restaurants offering authentic meals from countries around the world.
Several ex-housing commission homes are on offer but don’t be turned off. We bought a small but solid concrete house, and even minor renovations have updated its looks. There’s also an extensive range of outlets nearby serving advice and materials for home renovations.
Taking on the challenge of ‘recycling’ and updating a housing commission property has been rewarding, to say the least.
A trip to the city takes just 30min by car and it’s less than an hour to the airport. The City of Dandenong is currently being redeveloped after significant State Government investment and nearby suburbs like Doveton are sure to benefit. We’re enjoying being part of this!

"Suburban location with cheap properties"

A great suburban location based not too far from Melbourne’s CBD, Doveton is well situated for professionals and has a lot to offer families as well. Although the properties in the area are among the cheapest in Melbourne, Doveton is an older suburb and therefore attracts less first time buyers. Based near to Dandenong, the Monash and Princes freeways and both Dandenong and Eumemmerring creeks, Doveton plays host to four primary schools, an Aussie Rules football team, a soccer club and a softball club and three churches. An annual show is held locally and a big attraction for the area is an interactive animal farm for children.
