"Friendly suburb"

Moved to East Maitland approx. 4 years ago from the Central Coast NSW. Have not regretted it once! Great neighbours, excellent shopping facilities, good restaurants and cafe's, decent medical facilities (soon to be bolstered by the new Hospital being built), great location for the Hunter Valley Vineyards (30 mins away approx.), Newcastle (35 mins away, approx.) and other areas to visit; Lorn, Paterson, Morpeth (all beautiful areas). Cannot fault the place generally, other than some hoon drivers (which appears to be a scourge across NSW at the moment).

Looking for a home in East Maitland?

"Great semi rural suburb with easy access to everything you need"

I have lived here for nearly 15 years and love it. Quiet but well established semi rural suburb. Easy access to Newcastle beaches, the Hunter Valley vineyards are on our doorstep, established homes and gardens on good sized blocks . Stockland Greenhills is huge and offers shops, dining options, food hall and Hoyts cinema and if you want a more personal experience IGA, pharmacy and speciality shops and cafes available around Lawes Street and the High Street. Variety of schools and day care facilities. Parks, ovals and play areas for children surrounded by bush for shade. Check it out and you will be pleasantly surprised.

"Ok Suburb... But it could be so much better."

East Maitland is a good area, but it could be so much better. The new Stockland Greenhills is open and is a major attraction but the surrounding East Maitland Sopping district needs to diversify and grow. While the IGA, Dominos and the Your discount chemist are open 7 days, it is sad to see the other surrounding shops, cafe's and restaurants closed on the weekend which for people to go to Greenhills even when they dont want to.

Also, if you are a single person over the age of 30 - I would advise to look somewhere else as it is a very family orientated suburb.

"Booming town and a fantastic place to live!"

We've been living here for 8 years and are blown away by the growth in the area! We used to drive to Newcastle every weekend to shop and eat out, but now have everything at hand, including some of the nicest restaurants in the region...
Property is still outstanding value and we have had a number of ex Sydney residents move into our area and are loving the country feel with city convenience. To be honest, the influx of new people is one of the best things that has happened in the area as it has created a real "freshness" and purged the old "stale" feeling that we found 8 years ago.
We aren't going anywhere!!

"Amazing I love it"

It is such a nice place I can't think of any better place to live in the hunter. The residents are all such nice people. It is fair to say I love east Maitland
It's so nice I would sell my dog to live here. East Maitland is just so nice and supper cool

Rentals in East Maitland

"Growing area"

This area which should be called Greenhills (but they havent created it as its own suburb yet), than East Maitland is fantastic. The people are friendly, this close is really quiet with minimal road noise. Its only a 2 min walk to great shops. Ive been in this area for 9 years and find it safe and easy for everything I need. Shopping centre is big and plans to grow soon. Gyms, doctors, dentists, cinema in Maitland 5 mins away and great local schools. Everything you could want is on your doorstep

"Everything you need for family life"

Leafy suburb with a real mix of people and properties. I love this area and so do all my children. Shopping is great and the shopping centre is doubling in size by 2013 with a new Myer store. Why travel into Newcastle when you can park for free at Greenhills?

David Jones, Target and 71 speciality stores coming to Stockland Greenhills by end of 2018 - building has already started. Hunter Expressway now makes drive to Hunter Valley only 25-30 mins and Newcastle is about 20-25. Great place for families as schools are excellent and friendly neighbourhood. Been here over 10 years and think it has everything to offer. Affordable rents and affordable homes only a short distance out of Newcastle.

"Close to everything"

Great shopping at Stockland Greenhills. Great primary schools. 50 mins car drive to Hunter Valley vineyards. 25 mins to great Newcastle beaches. Excellent train service. Friendly people and a great place to bring up a family.

"We love East Maitland"

Close and handy to shops, 30 - 40 minutes to vineyards, 30 minutes to Newcastle, friendly people in our street, handy to train lines, been here for 2 years and don't plan on moving anytime soon!

"Unrealistic"

Brunswick Street.
This house is only a few doors from where I live the house has a VERY small yard, NO garage (I don't know about anyone else but my car is an assett not a bomb to rust away on the street). Will the council approve building one on such a small block? The crime rate in this area leaves a lot to be desired with one break-in (while I was sleeping in the next room) and three other incidents at my house alone. Other neighbours have had similar problems less than 50 meters from that house.
The highway noise is unbearable at times, Brunswick street can get noisy as well. The only saving grace for the neighbourhood is the neighbours. Best people in the world, they all live near me.
