Edgewater is nice, and not too far from the heart of the city while not being right in the middle of the loudest streets either. I would say it's above average in terms of safety, and the homes are pretty nice, so certainly some of the surrounding neighborhoods like West Rogers Park, and Ravenswood, but also a few further neighborhoods like Norwood Park are very similar.
Edgewater is a charming residential area on Chicago's North Side. Depending on what appeals to you about Edgewater, you'll find several comparable neighborhoods. The quiet charm of Edgewater can be found in parts of East Rogers Park and North Center. If you enjoy the shopping and the diversity of the area, East Lakeview or Roscoe Village may be right for you. Overall, Edgewater offers a pretty low cost of living in a safe community, which you can find in all of these other neighborhoods.
