Hi Twin,
I'm always in Elwood on a Saturday morning, and it can be quite hit and miss with the coffee. I only really know Tiger Bar on Ormond Road. They do very nice coffee AND all round breakfasts.
There is also a Greek cafe (I think it's greek) that does quite nice food and coffee as well.
If you are looking for the best of the best, there's a great Cafe in Port Melbourne called Zest. It does the best breakfasts, and it my choice of choice when it comes to weekends.
Hope it helps!
AJ
Hey Twin,
What's the cafe called now? Reason I called it Tiger is cus i looked it up on google to see, and it's outdated data (and i can't quite make out the name of it on StreetView). My best mate lives on St Kilda Street so I'm there on weekends.
I totally agree about making a good cup of coffee, and that's why recommended Zest. They always make it nice.
I know HEAPS of places out in Templestowe and Richmond area, but I suppose that's not Elwood.
Do you live in Elwood? How do you find it? I'm looking to move to Port Melbourne before this summer, can't wait to have the beach for summer!

AJ, Elwood is fantastic.. I have lived there for 12 years..its a great balance of lifestyles you can cross over Barkly and you're into the groove of St Kilda and when you want something quieter head back to Elwood.. close to the beach and I love the plain trees that line the street.. I couldnt think of anywhere better to live..
The cafe that has replaced Tiger Bar is revolting - I dont even know what is called..
Really? You don't like the corner cafe? I love it! I actually don't love the corner cafe a bit further up on the same corner. It's a bit upper class but tries a bit too hard. Can't remember the name of it though. Next time i'm there i'll make some mental notes.
Can't wait to get down there, SUMMER IS COMING!!

Cafe 156 is recommended here: http://www.ryanoncoffee.com/2008/04/short-mac-cafe-156-elwood.html
Hey Twin,
Any more coffee updates around Elwood?
Have you found 'the ultimate'?
AJ
Hey Twin,
Went again to the cafe on the corner on Ormond Road on the weekend and had a beautiful breakfast in the sunshine. It's called Wild, and I have to disagree, it's a great place for coffee!
Maybe you should give it another try.
AJ
Hey guys,
We have a winner!! A new cafe has just opened up on the corner of Ormond Road and St Kilda Street called Elwood Food and Wine.
Having been to most places in Ormond Road, and following on from this thread, I decided to give the new cafe go. First of all, it's a little more upmarket than most of the cafe's in Elwood, which is a great thing. Nothing too classy though, just a bit cleaner, a bit better service, and not snobby at all.
Anyways, I had brekky there, and decided to have the Waffles with passionfruit. It was AMAZING. Best waffles I have ever had hands down. The coffee is easily the best in the area as well, so I advise to go and check it out...if you can get a seat. It was PACKED, so get in early. I've also uploaded a few pics of the place:

Hi AJ,
I'd have to agree with you. Elwood Food & Wine do a great coffee! I like to compliment it with one of their good old fashioned toasted jaffles. It's great spot to sit in the sun on a Saturday and enjoy the atmosphere. I'm looking forward to trying-out their wine list too when they're open for drinks.
The Little Ox on New St also does great coffee and food with a twist. It's pretty hard to get-in on weekends as tables are fairly limited.
A little further down the road but Bossy Boots on Bay St in Brighton also serves up a satisfying coffee.
With the warm weather approaching it's easy to venture a little further from home.
@alice161 toasted jaffles AND waffles...wow I'm drooling right now at my desk. One thing I did notice that I forgot to mention, when you went did you happen to find there were a lot of flies buzzing around? The morning I went there seemed to be a lot more than normal? A minor fixable issue, but it was a little annoying.
I have never even heard of the other places you mentioned, I'll have to check them out, although Bay St in Brighton does have some great places...but that's another thread all together!
