Hi Elsa, It really depends on what type of lifestyle you are after.
If you want to remain close to the CBD and are after a safe 'CBD fringe' area for your family (and you have a flexible budget), I would suggest looking into the St Kilda West, Albert Park and Port Melbourne areas. There is a combination of familly homes and/or spacious apartments to chose from. These are the best suburbs that offer easy access to the CBD for work but also provides a great lifestyle balance with shops, beach, park/lake all within walking distance.
