There have been some bad bush fires out Crows Nest / Ravensbourne/Hampton way in past years.
Hogson Vale is nice ( I live there and wouldn't live anywhere else in Toowoomba). I'm five minutes from Middle Ridge/ Toowoomba Plaza/ Harvey Norman Centre shopping centres; and only 10 minutes max to Grand Central. I'm five minutes from USQ too.
Oakey is fine, though it is hotter during summer and colder during winter. Oakey has a bad reputation because of the "water issue" but it really is a non-issue. It's a friendly little town.

You really can't go past Wyreema and Westbrook. There are plenty of acreage properties. The terrain is open plainland, with lots of cropping, cattle and horses, and is not bush-fire prone. Wyreema is only eight minutes to the local campus of the University of Southern Queensland and only 15 minutes to the Toowoomba CBD. For me, Hampton and Goombungee don't hold the same appeal. Hope this helps.
