What is the best town in the Hunter Region that is affordable yet has a creative community

Hunter Region is located in the state of New South Wales.

I am looking for somewhere 2-3hours out of Sydney with houses for sale under $370,000 but Id like a good community vibe that has some diversity or an establish arts and craft community. Does this exist?
