When I first moved to the hills I had a small split system and a slow combustion fire, this works well for a smaller property. I moved into a bigger place with evaporative air conditioning and gas heating,I was worried it wouldn't cut it but being an indoors/outdoors lifestyle I have found the evaporative to be very suitable, rather than coming from outdoors into a cold or hot environment its a breezey environment. The gas heating does a great job, although we have 3 to cover the house area

I think it depends on what suits you - I prefer refrigerated air con since I don't like event he slightest humidity. Either way, it is starting to get to the point where air con is a must in Perth.
