Is the area around Newmarket station and the plaza a safe area?

Is the area around Newmarket station and the plaza a safe area? Has anyone experienced any problems with the Newmarket Tavern (which is open till 3am)? Have people had any bad experiences (or good) in relation to the recent immigrants that are housed in the nearby commission housing?
