Reviews of Kilkivan, QLD

"A great place to raise children and to telecommute"

Kilkivan is a quiet rural township nestled in a picturesque mountain setting. It has a number of facilities including small general shops, newsagent, library, swimming pool, P-10 school, hotel, sporting clubs and facilities, bowls club, restaurant, post office, kindegarten, CWA, garge and fuel, Council offices and facilities and is home to the annual Great Horse Ride. With fibre optic broadband, both internet and mobiles have good reception. You can grow semi tropical to temperate vegetation and plants. 30 minutes drive to Gympie with major shopping centres; just over 1 hour to the Sunshine Coast, Rainbow Beach and Kingaroy; 2.25 hours to Brisbane on a 4 lane highway for more than half the trip. Access to rail via Gympie. It is ceratinly a great place for those folk who like a strong sense of community and who cherish their privacy and peace and quiet. Most houses are on large blocks (from .5 to more than 1 acre). It is a safe place for children.

Great for

  • Peace and quiet
  • Reasonable access to other centres
  • Good access to internet and mobile services

Not great for

  • Lack of large town facilities
  • Years 11 and 12 high schoolers travel by bus to Gympie
  • No hospital or resident doctor (visiting doctor)

"Kilkivan - Great to enter the property market"

Kilkivan is a small town surrounded by hilly country, yet it is with reach of the coast. Situated 286 kms North West of Brisbane, but only 53 kms from Gympie. The town has parks and heritage buildings to see and as well as paying a visit to the museum, Prophet Gold Mine and Fat Hen Farm. There are a number of interesting drives around the local countryside. Don't worry about accommodation Kilkivan has guest houses, hotels, motel, farm stays and a well appointed caravan park. There are good food outlets and home prices in the area are generally quite affordable and with reach of the average family.
