"A bit like the southern highlands rather than metro Sydney"

Kirkpatrick Street is one of the nicest streets in North Turramurra. This street along with Du Faur Street and Nagle Place forms part of North Turramurra’s upper northern area known as the estates. This modern area was developed in the 1980’s with houses being built from the mid to late 80’s right up until the early 2000’s. Houses are situated on large blocks of land, some with tennis courts. The area offers a rural feel - a bit like the southern highlands rather than metro Sydney.

The area has a strong community, where people frequently say hello. The street and surrounding area offers open space, clean air and is blessed with common sightings of a variety beautiful native wildlife. Residents have seen wallabies hopping around after sundown. There are other surprises, such as the nearby Sphinx War Memorial. Kirkpatrick Street also has one of only a few fenced dog parks in Ku-ring-gai. The Sandakan Memorial is also situated in Kirkpatrick Street next to the park.

Within walking distance are, Ku-ring-gai High School, the local 18-hole golf course and playing fields. The local shopping village, café’s, restaurants, service station (that still offers driveway service), bowling greens and highly respected primary school are only a couple of minutes drive. A seven-day a week bus service to the station and a five-day peak hour express bus service to and from the city run through Kirkpatrick Street.

The street is close to the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park with the spectacular Bobbin Head waterway and parklands (our local playground) only a short distance away. Surrounded by bush tracks and with cycle lanes along Bobbin Head Road, the area is a favorite for walkers and cyclists alike.

I rate the street four stars. I would have rated it five stars if it were not for the high voltage powerlines that run through the area. The health effects of power lines have been debated over the last four decades with nothing proven and latest reports indicating no health issues. That aside, the powerlines can be unsightly in parts.

Homes in the street have been selling for between $1.2m – $1.3m with the highest $1.8 million a few years ago for one of the largest properties. The largest homes on largest blocks could fetch over $2 million in today’s market.
