Hi, Darwin is a very friendly town. Locals will help out with anything and even invite you over for a BBQ on the weekend. There are heaps of schools both private and public available, one public hospital and one private hospital to cover all your medical needs. As for work, there are many different employment opportunities available depending on the sector you wish to choose. Weekend activities vary from the wave pool to the esplanade in the city, or the water park in Leanyer or the biggest backyard of them all... Kakadu and Litchfield National Park. Everything you could want in a city without the traffic and peak hour, you will find it all in Darwin. As far as finding somewhere to live, i have lived in the Darwin for 28 years and lived in Leanyer for 26years. This suburb is central to everything you need, schools, childcare, shopping, churches, medical care etc. The suburb is quiet, safe and nothing is too much to ask of its residents. As far as pricing is concerned, it is all relevant to the suburb. As with every suburb in Australia, you get what you pay for. If you want a cheap home, expect less bang for your buck. In saying that, there are plenty of homes available in leanyer to buy, and with your wife and child, there are plenty of units on offer. I have taken a liking to one myself, newly painted, renovated and hosting the largest internal unit size and yard (large front and back yards) of any unit in the area that i have seen, and the owners are only asking $415,000.00 for this little bargain through Chilcott Real Estate. I hope that this helps to answer your question, and wish you the very best in your search for a new home with your family.

I agree that Darwin is a friendly place and I find its also quite unique and multicultural. We have enjoyed living here for 10 yrs in the suburb of Anula and have happily raised our children here, with no intention to move. Everything we need is close by and easily accessible, e.g. schools, shops, airport, hospital, local swimming, sporting facilities and beautifully maintained parklands. It is safe and relaxing here, hope you find what you are looking for!
