Remember that dreaded call you used to get from your relatives saying, “Hi! Can you move in for a couple of weeks, whilst we go on vacation?” The first thoughts that would come to mind are, ‘Here we go……”
Generally there would be a bit of back and forth, and before you knew it, you would be packing your bags and begrudgingly moving in to their house. Before anything, think about the real positive! You have free rent! Whilst you may need to suss out a few things to have your place looked after, you are in prime position to make some good money! Sites like AirBnB allow you to rent our your place, whilst you lap up the free rent!
2. You can try a new living environment.
A great advantage in living in someone else’s home is that you get to see what it’s like to live with and without other features in your house. You also get to see what it’s like living in a different suburb you may have considered moving in to, without having to make the full blown commitment of the move.
3. You get an automatic best friend.
If you house sit because the person who lives there has an animal, you will make a new best friend instantly. You will also get to enjoy the company of the pet, without having the full blown responsibility of looking after it all the time. This is a great way to test out if you want a pet, or to just mix up you living arrangement.
4. The fridge is full!
Most responsible people leave their fridge full. They also say some parting comment such as “Help yourself to anything in the fridge” not really thinking you will take full advantage of it. Oh how wrong they were! Use the full fridge to fill up on food and save money on your shopping bill! This saves you going to the supermarket AND spending money!
5. Their holiday can be your holiday!
What’s a holiday? Generally it is just changing your routine and going somewhere new. House sitting can serve as a great why to recharge the batteries and refresh your routine, without either having to spend the money to do it, or the time off work.
