I went to Times Square on New Year's once when I was 17 years old. But I was too sober to stand the cold and the drunks for very long. I made my way to a party in Williamsburg instead, which was way better.
The ball dropping thing has become beyond uninteresting to me - I don't understand why anyone would torture themselves just to glimpse a few struggling celebrities and a drunken countdown.
Yeah, total tourist foolishness, that ball dropping thing.
I never went to Times Square. Too crowded. I don't see the big deal in the ball dropping either. When midnight comes, my girlfriend and I kiss. Then we go to sleep. That's it.
@BroadwayBK, Uraniumfish so agree with the two of you... so what is everyone doing for the eve? mine is going to be mellow I think.. my ma in law is visiting and I am recovering from a throat infection... temperature is in the 40s here but no central heating..oof
I am going to be relaxing in bed next to my girl.
@uptowngirl My whole family seems to be sick.. I guess the whole world has it! I spent NYE at the movie theater, seeing Tron: Legacy. Don't see it! Though the special effects weren't bad.
Oh man. I'm still recovering from all the champagne and a night out in Williamsburg. Happy New Year's everybody!
@Everyone Happy New Year..I did go out to a friends place as the hubby didnt want to be stuck at home. It was actually fun, met some fun people including a couple of New Yorkers and we played a game until 4am! good fun..
@uptowngirl That sounds lovely. I much prefer an intimate setting, especially on drinking holidays.
@BroadwayBK me too, I feel I am too old to be running around clubs and bars.
Ugh, I had an allergic reaction to my boyfriend's sheets this New Year's, and spent 00:00 being slathered down in moisturizing/steroid cream while curled up in bed, unable to move my arms or neck. Hope it's not bad auspices for 2011!
@ajededidealist oh no! poor you .. I sure hope not
I was in Central Park cheering someone on for the 4 mile run they do at midnight. Pretty great, and I'm glad I got to avoid the typical foolishness, and still be part of a big ole party.
@Uraniumfish that's cool its supposed to be a pretty cool event though I must admit I watched the ball drop on TV on the 1st morning here in HK wanted to be connected to NYC and that dishy Anderson Cooper is a fave of mine.
@Everybody: I also would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
@uptowngirl How was that? I haven't watched the ball drop in years - the Dick Clark-type programming tends to bore me.
@BroadwayBK my mother in law who watched all the various celebrations in Sydney, London and elsewhere declared New York as a damn squib! like I said I love Anderson Cooper and watched it for him.. it was the usual nothing different..
@Uptowngirl: Interesting comment your mother-in-law made about NYC.
@uptowngirl Figures.
@BroadwayBK: I thought Dick Clark had a stroke.
@hhusted he did .. this year the show was compered by the yummy Anderson Cooper..
@uptowngirl - thanks, I'm recovered now, thanks to a good deal of hydrocortisone and an emergency trip to the Clarins counter at Bergdorfs. Thank goodness for intensive products!
@ajadedidealist aha hydrocortisone, my Duane Reade generic hydrocortisone cream travels with me everywhere..its quite effective in getting rid of nasty rashes that I so prone too.
@Uptowngirl: Was Anderson Cooper as exciting as Dick Clark or more boring?
