Don't want no more tourtist in New York

Is it just me or are you sick and tired of all the wanna be "make it big in New York" types that flock to New York? Yes it's the greatest city in the world...blah blah blah...but it's also our city. Keep away tourists!!

I think you are being a bit dramatic. The toursits are a part of new york. The new blood in this city keeps it interesting.

Hi Lester, just came across this post, and I must say I am EXTREMELY shocked at your attitude. NY is all about the people, the diverse cultures, the exotic foods etc. I would hate it if every time I visited NY i felt uncomfortable or unwelcome. It does like you are outnumbered here.

If it weren;t for tourists, all the Olive Garden's in NYC would be out of business. You decide.

I suspect this was just a topic to draw attention. So, it would appear that folks are really concern about this controversy post which doesn't mount to a hill of beans! IMHO ~ it was posted just keep this topic going and if it was a major concern.

Tourists are always going to be a major component to this GREAT CITY!!!

I think a button should be created on this site to END and/or change TOPIC(S) like this!!!

Yeah, but it isn't ended!

A lot of us started out as tourists. And then came back.

You can tell who the tourists are. For one thing, they're the ones walking down the street LOOKING ALL THE WAY UP!!!!!!

I cannot belive what this guys is saying. He's a joke.

new york has become one of the best cities in the world BECAUSE of tourists and outsiders. That's what makes it so great, the complete melting pot of cultures. If you don't like it lester, i suggest YOU leave.

Without tourists a lot of people in NYC would not have jobs!

Wait, are we talking about the tourists or about the people who move here with big dreams of making it big? Tourists are income, and the money they spend on the tourist traps keeps the rest of us in municipal infrastructure and a lot of jobs.

As for people who flock here with dreams, it's been verified by sociologists that big hubs of commerce and culture like this one typically produce the greatest clusters of innovation. All the smart, creative ambitious types come here to be around other smart, creative ambitious types, and do smart, creative ambitious things. If that's not attractive to you, it's better to live in a small town. The rest of us LIKE that about New York.

There is an old saying "that it is a great place to visit but you wouldn't want to live here." This can be true if you are not prone to living in a big city. As for me, I'm not exactly thrilled with so many people being here, but I do know one thing, if it wasn't for the tourists, this city would have gone bankrupt by now. About 60% of the money made in NYC comes from tourists. Think about that one.

I believe it is a judgment call. NYC does have a lot going for it, but it is also a very stressful place to be. Financially speaking, the city is suffering big time, but there are people filling the streets everyday. Many people have a somber look on their faces from the stress they are under. But that doesn't stop them from going out. I think each person should judge for themselves whether or not to live here. NYC is not for everyone.

If you like it here, get your foot planted, and make something of yourself. If you do not like it here, leave. No one is holding you.

well said Uraniumfish.. NYC attracts the brightest and the best from all over the world. Sure its a tough city and its very competitive but many of us thrive in such an atmosphere. As for tourists, just like every other global city NYC needs them to come here to spend their dollars in our stores, restaurants and 'landmark' attractions. The diversity of NYC is one of its greatest attractions at least for me, this is what makes NYC stand apart from any old American city...

Lester a news flash... according to a recent report New York City tourist figures have dropped by about 3.99% over last year but NYC still remains the most popular destination for tourists coming to the US. So you are always going to have tourists in NYC no matter what.

@uptowngirl: Yep. NYC built the hype back in the 1920s and the hype has continued throughout the decades. I really don't see tourism dropping at all, just as you said, because of NYC being such a tourist trap.
