I love that this list can be plotted on the map. Fact: The reason so many tall buildings are concentrated in downtown and mid-town is because the island of Manhattan, being originally marshy sand, does not have stable ground everywhere. So tall buildings were only build in patches where the ground was determined to be able to bear the load.

I think I've mentioned this elsewhere on this site. It's nice to see it on a map, though.

Yes, having a map to go with the list let's you see things visually. Uraniumfish, I knew about the ground because I studied NYC history. You'd be surprised what NYC looked like centuries ago before it became an actual city.

@ henrycarrey Wow, excellent site! The geek in me enjoys the section "under construction" to see the buildings develop from start to finish. And now that there's so many new, half-finished ones on the skyline...

@henrycarrey Thanks for the site...

I never would've guessed that the Bank of America tower was so close in height to the Empire State Building.

Are there any great lists of fountains/ parks anywhere? Kind of a weird request, but I'm scoping for a novel I'm writing, and I'm really looking for a great out-of-the-way fountain or something...

@bellacaroline Ask and ye shall receive:

There are also random other lists. "Vintage Barrooms" and "Architecture near 53rd street" are just two I've done, but there's a bunch more...

Can't think of anything specifically on fountains, but who knows.
