How does everyone get around?

With the fairly common problem of getting around in NY (at least from what I hear from friends) how on earth does everyone get around?

Cabs? Driving? Walking? I've always been curious....

Subway!! It's the only way to get around in NYC, but we also use cabs as well. Cars are very expensive in NYC, as finding a parking spot is hard, and garages are expensive.

Subway is great when you're getting downtown in a hurry, but it's a pain when you're trying to get crosstown and have to connect with a bus...Cabs are expensive but so convenient, and a bit more economical than in some other cities, so they are an irresistible temptation. But I could never imagine keeping a car here. Such a pain! And garages are more expensive than a year's worth of taxi-cabs. And there's always cycling...

Subway and bus. I will use a cab occasionally. However, I can get to most places using the subway. It is $2.25 compared to a cab where the meter starts at $2.50 and goes from there.

Subway, and I'm a big fan of walking whenever I can, even long stretches.
