Is Central Park safe to wander at night?
Just walking past Central Park in NY and was wondering how safe it is at night time? Would you risk it?

Not at all there have been too many incidents there at night -who can forget the case of Trisha Meili a NYC investment banker who was raped in the park while jogging at around 10pm nearly 13 years ago- ttp://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2007/11/15/2007-11-15_question_from_oprah_angers_central_park_-2.html. I know NYC has become safer ever since even then I wouldnt risk it ...
I would never take the chance and do that by myself. It wouldn't be safe. If you work certain hours and your job is near there, I would suggest getting to the nearest subway quickly, or walking with someone till you get home, or get to some means of transportation.
Probably not. Even with the city less crime-infested than it's ever been before, I don't see a reason to court danger.
I also vote no - I actually know a few people who've been mugged or gotten into scuffles in Central Park after hours. I don't feel that New York is an especially dangerous city, but I am not one to take unnecessary safety risks.
I heard that someone got mugged in Central Park in broad daylight, and no one came to help the poor girl. Eventually, a security guard was walking through, spotted the girl, and called the police.
