What a fantastic event! Can't wait! Did anyone go last year?
No, ajadedidealist. I'll tell my girlfriend and let her know about it. Maybe she'll go since it deals with art.
@Uraniumfish I waited for you to post this! I knew you would-:) are you going to the other art fairs as well? Scope, Pulse, VoltaNY.. I was hoping the affordable art fair would be now as well.. I want to take some inexpensive art with me to Asia. All the art that I have is Asian and I am leaving it behind here as most people that I know in Hong Kong have Asian art on their walls and I want to be different. So I am heading to The Brooklyn Flea this weekend to see if I can find something ..
@Uraniumfish believe that the enthusiasm displayed by dealers from all over the world at the Armory Show indicates that the art scene in NYC is rebounding with a bang!
There's a ton of stuff to see. Any pointers on how to approach the show? What to see first?
@DBlack Maybe the best approach is to pick and area of art you're interested in, and focus there. For example, the way uptowngirl is interested in Asian art and usually (except for this year, it sounds like) heads to that section.
@Uptowngirl I actually won't have time to go this weekend, so I'm hoping someone else goes and gives me the lowdown. And about the art scene rebounding: not sure, but I guess all the galleries are certainly give it a try. That's something I'd be curious to observe at the show: what the general "mood" is regarding art sales.
Has anyone been yet? I wish it was happening a little later in the month, when I would have more money on my hands. Hmmm...
@Uraniumfish here's an article that I came across today which says that the Armory show did extremely well. No sales figures are provided but apparently galleries sold out their inventories.

@uptowngirl Wow, really? I'm surprised. It seemed that only a couple of months ago a gallerist friend of mine was saying the art market is lousy right now.
@Uraiumfish: Maybe that is a sign that things are starting to pick up in NYC. I noticed the market is beginning to rebound. And I noticed that the job market is starting to open a bit. So maybe things are starting to get better.
Indian art is especially in right now. My mother lived in India in her thirties, and is considering selling off some of the nice antique figurines she bought there. She checked with Christie's - they've more than quadrupled in value since she bought them in the 70's.
@ajadedidealist wow that's quite something. Maybe one day my small collection will be worth that much too :):).
