Where your tips go
It is a well known fact that you are expected to to leave at least a 20% tip when you dine out in NYC but if you have wondered where your money was going before you will be happy to know that state labor officials have from instituted new rules as to who will get a share of the tips left at restaurants.

Good to know, @uptowngirl! Although tips can get ridiculous! The new tv-cab thing that lets you calculate your tip encourages you to start at 20% for a cab fare, which is a bit ridiculous!

@uptowngirl I don't think it would be a problem for restaurants to more or less just ignore these newly instituted rules; I've worked in places where the manager felt the need to dip his hand in our tips, and I don't think he cared whether it was legal to do so.
@ajadedidealist What do you tip cabbies?

I hate this tip system! Just pay the friggin employees enough, that way we all can calculate our fare and our dinner realistically! Sheesh!
