We are relocating to Melbourne and have no idea which suburbs we should be considering moving to.

We are wanting to narrow down our search for a family friendly suburb in Melbourne. We are wanting either a Northern or Eastern suburb as my husband will be commuting to Southbank (we were hoping for him to have a max commute time of 30 mins via public transport to his work in Southbank).

As we have a 4 year old, a semi family friendly suburb would be good. But we also need to consider the primary schools in the area as that time isn't too far away. We would ideally love to enrol him in a school (or kinder) which has a play based learning philosophy for the younger age group.

Note we are looking to rent at this stage.

Thank you in advance for all your help. I've done some research by far but there is nothing like finding out from the people who actually live in Melbourne!

Eastern is much better for commuting to Southbank. Not sure if your price range affords it, but Rosanna is a north-eastern suburb with a train station (25-28 minutes to the city (28-30 non-express. Has a community feel and great primary schools.
